Z-Box Fitness - The Workout

Fun Workout!
I have been exercising with DVDs for many years, and this is really a fun workout, but you get great results, also! I always enjoyed kickboxing workouts, and this also brings in the "dance" aspect. Very different, and enjoyable workout. - posted by Paula, 48 on 4/30/2012
Loved This Workout!!!!!
I'm a long-time fan of Debbie Lim and her workouts. When I lived in the Detroit area, I took her Cardio Kickboxing class and it was the BEST workout class I have ever taken. I moved to northern Michigan a few years ago and had to drop out of her class. I was so excited to find her video on the Collage Video site and couldn't wait to receive it. I wasn't disappointed. It's a fun, fast-paced workout and really made me sweat. Debbie and her sister, Donna, are such happy, enthusiastic and motivating people. The moves are easy to follow and you feel like you are right in the class with them. I'm 63 years old and very active. I have lost 53 pounds in the past 10 months and I KNOW this workout will help keep them lost! I would highly recommend this video to everyone who wants to get fit and have a great time doing it. Can't wait for their next video!!! - posted by Gale on 3/29/2012
LOVE THIS WORKOUT!!!!
I just recently purchased this dvd, and I love it. I'm not one much for working out, I am not very active. I found it to get easier to follow the moves every time I did it. The instructors make it fun, and once you learn the moves, it's a great workout. Try it, you won't be disappointed. It's a different kind of workout, but if you like boxing and dancing, you will enjoy this. - posted by Connie on 3/26/2012
Good workout
I bought this because it looked different and fun...It is different and fun BUT...not my type of workout. Also, I had just a bit of difficulty understanding one of the instructors at times. I gave the DVD away to one of my friends that will probably like it more than I do...That being said...It's still a good workout... - posted by Lola on 2/18/2012
Really fun and motivating
I agree with the positive reviews- this workout is fun and kicks butt! I love kickboxing- they provide a really good workout with awesome moves- time really flies. I'm not usually into dancy videos, but their cuing is so good even I picked up right away and was able to get a great workout. I worked up a nice sweat by the end of this workout. If you like kickboxing I highly recommend, and you will get the bonus of the dance workout. The strength at the end is the icing on the cake. I also agree with a previous viewer that this feels like you're in a live class- the more I do this workout the more I will learn the moves- I hate when there is too much instruction- I get bored easily. Not with this workout! - posted by Joanne on 1/31/2012
Really fun workout!
This workout was a blast! If you enjoy taking Zumba classes at the gym and also like Kickboxing then you will really enjoy this workout. I'm not sure why folks are having issues with the cueing. It's similar to the kind of cueing you get in a live class - you remain at the same pace throughout the workout. So, if you need every move broken down at a slow pace then take it to tempo after you learn it - then this is not for you. I actually LOVE this workout for that reason - I feel like I am in a live class. The music is great, the moves are fun and simple enough to learn your first time through. The last dance segment was the most dancy and poorly cued - but after a few times through you'll get it - and if you don't just dance and have fun to the parts you can't get! I haven't tried the toning section as I really was only interested in the cardio portion and loved it. It's a keeper! - posted by fitnesschick on 1/24/2012
Best Workout DVD!
I'm 46 years old and have always battled my weight and despised working out. I've been to many gym's through out the years, but there was a certain element of enthusiasm and motivation that was lacking from the various instructors. That all changed when I attended my first class of Zumba and Z-Boxing with the Fitness Motivators! These ladies are high spirited, positive, full of energy and very enthusiastic and passionate about motivating others to have fun while getting fit. First of all, I have to say that I liked the fact that it wasn't taped in a gym or studio because it gave it a fresh new feel than the same old thing done over 100 times. Great song selections too. I have been to many classes of Debbie and Donna's and I enjoy their style, alternating movements, combined with dance and arm weights, just like in their DVD (which is so cool in HD) on my big TV screen! It makes me feel as though I was right back in class with them! (I am my Mom's caregiver now, so I had to leave the classes, but with this DVD I am back in action and feeling great!) I recommend this DVD to everyone. Awesome job! I want to also let everyone who reads this know that by doing Z-Boxing I lost 35lbs and have more endurance, clothes fit way better and everything about me is better. Thank you for your positive motivational influence, your unique workout and to all who participated in this DVD, you have changed my health, my life and my outlook, all for the better! Highly Recommended DVD! - posted by Donna Marie on 1/24/2012
Fun workout mixing kickboxing and dance
Full disclosure: I received a free review copy of this workout. I saw this workout on Collage and was intrigued by it. It seemed to be a fresh take on combining different types of workouts, mainly kickboxing and dance. STRUCTURE OF THE WORKOUT There is a warm up and then 4 sets of a kickboxing segment followed by a dance segment. The kickboxing is not what I would consider either traditional or hardcore kickboxing. They do punches and kicks and repeater knees in a flowing routine that sets the patterns and then repeats the moves in that segment. Some of the dance segments are dance and at least one is what I would consider dancey hi/lo with moves like grapevines. After these four sets, there is a strength workout that I would describe as a flowing low-weight workout. It's rather short and not very intense, so it wouldn't be good for a lot of people for a stand-alone workout. Then, there is a bonus stretch segment. You can pick kickboxing only, dance only, or strength only from the main menu. INSTRUCTORS I kept thinking that the instructors looked A LOT alike. It turns out that two of the three main instructors that lead the segments are twins, Debbie and Donna Lim. It's nice to know that I'm not going nuts! One of the instructors is extremely and effusively enthusiastic. She leads the first segment and I was ready to shoot the screen because she kept bursting out with exclamations like, "This is So MUCH FUN!!!!!!!!!" After the first segment, she calmed down and it turns out that she is the one who gave most of the form pointers given throughout the workout. In other segments that the others led, once in awhile she would just circle around while everyone else faced forward. I decided that must just be her personality. The other two were more down to earth. They do mirror cue, except for the time or two they forgot. The cueing is not the best, but not as bad as I've seen described in Collage reviews. There are times they cue ahead of the move. There are times they cue right ON the move. There are times they cue after the move has started. There are times when their cues are perfect. There are times their cues are confusing - like the section where she cued the knees up move, but there were at least two different knees up moves. They definitely could improve their cueing. DETAILS, DETAILS, DETAILS The three main instructors switch off with the person leading that segment in front and the other two on the first row behind her. Then, there were 2-3 background exercisers on the third row. The music had no vocals, but I thought it was pretty good. I noticed that it matched the moves well in several places. Other places, I couldn't tell you what it was. The set was fairly light. It almost looked like an old warehouse or something like that. The camera work was generally good. There were a time or two that they were focusing on the upper body when I needed to see the feet or vice versa. Generally though, I saw what I needed to see. MY OPINION I was surprised by how much fun I had in certain places. The kickboxing segments I especially enjoyed as they were flowing and sometimes mixed in tai chi type moves at the beginning or end. Other segments were not as fun for me, mainly the dance segments that were harder for me because I am not a dance person. They looked like fun, but I had trouble following. I guess better cueing would have helped, but it wouldn't have solved the issue for me as I am just a dance klutz. They could have left out the strength segment and nothing of value would have been lost. I guess for someone who doesn't do other strength work, it could be good. This workout isn't for everyone, but people who want a dancey option that includes kickboxing will be pleased, I think. I hope this group does more DVDs. It's always good to have new faces and takes on fitness that gives us all more options. - posted by Laura on 1/21/2012
Awful workout
The instructors need a class in cueing. It would have been far better to replace the dance sections with lower body cardio toning. And the add-on bonus toning section was boring and just strange. There is potential but the dvd is just plain bad, boring, and in the mail to be returned. - posted by Kaitlyn on 1/21/2012
It is a shame that....
All I can say, it is too bad Collage Video doesn't monitor the comments here. Perhaps Collage Video should have their Customers sign in and then leave a comment after they can prove that the customer (leaving the comment) actually bought the DVDs from them. This workout is fun and it is interesting. I also workout to one of the hottest "dance programs" out there (not sure if I can say their name here) and they NEVER cue or show the next move, but no one will say anything about that program, because it is all over the world and it is popular right now! Even "the staff pick" have bad comments and reviews on them. Do yourself a favor, just look at the videos that are posted at this site and if it grabs your attention, try it! Some people can be real mean leaving comments... it makes me think if they are competitors or just haters? - posted by Melissa on 1/19/2012

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Floor aerobics & toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The aerobics segments are fast-paced standing movements like marching, dancing and jumping. These segments require no equipment. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against a resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
