Certified instructor description: Classic “The Firm-style” body-sculpting intermixed with Pilates and balance exercises. Tracie’s well-sequenced selection of moves, tempos and techniques is both effective and motivating. Each focused segment features a complementary series of varied movements (e.g. traditional squats, single-leg squats, three-count squats, “hip opener” squats). The standing toning is truly Firm-style; it often works multiple muscle groups using multiple dumbbells (each segment has a graphic showing the weight level and body parts being toned). Calm, direct, one-on-one cuing. Requires at least two sets of dumbbells (e.g. 3 and 5 lb.). ©2009. DVD has: 2 premixes (15 & 20 min. alternate workouts), Chapter menus.

Tracie Long's Longevity: Defining Shape

A well rounded workout...
I fail to understand why a workout would be given only 3 stars because it was only an intermediate workout, since this is exactly how it is rated by Collage. And it is a solid intermediate workout with a lot of balance work and a return to some fun floor exercises that remind me of earlier Firms. Tracie really knows her stuff. - posted by RuthNYC on 4/8/2012
GREAT
Great workout, typical Firm/Tracie Long style. I'm pretty much in the intermediate group and feel this was just right for me. You can always make it more challenging by upping the weights and by what you put into it. Definitely one added to my weekly schedule. - posted by Tricia on 2/14/2012
Terrific total body workout with a focus on core and balance
I've always enjoyed Tracie Long's instruction since her days with the Firm. And since venturing out on her own, Tracie's workouts always bring their own unique spin to home fitness. Defining Shape is great for any exerciser. I'm 52 and in fair shape - I'd say just venturing into the "Intermediate" classification - and find this workout tough, yet doable. Her lying unweighted leg workout gives your hip rotators a nice workout after all the weighted squats and her ab workout offers up good deep abdominal work along with core work. While Tracie's workouts have never fallen into my "every day" workout category, they're nice to toss into the mix every now and again for a change of pace. - posted by Pamela on 5/29/2011
GREAT! LOVE IT!
I am a solid intermediate exerciser and was looking for a strength training workout for my level. This one delivers. Tracie is a great instructor and this one worked all of the muscles. I especially liked the squats series as well as the plies and biceps work. Very well balanced. Highly recommend this one. - posted by Jill on 5/12/2011
Good Workout
This is a well-balanced, challenging strength-training workout. It's not as intense as some of of Cathe's can be; but it's very effective, and I enjoy doing it. A nice variety of moves. - posted by Vickie on 4/23/2011
Excellent!
I am very impressed with this great workout. I am an intermediate exerciser and I have difficulty sometimes finding workouts that are just at my level, yet inspiring enough to push me further. Tracie is a superb instructor; I feel like she is working with me as effectively as any personal trainer. The exercises are imaginative and flow beautifully. - posted by Linda on 3/17/2011
definitely intermediate workout
I would agree with one reviewer who said this is NOT for advanced. I am 47 and would say I'm an intermediate to advanced exerciser, and I too found this workout to be one that I would do on a "take it easier" day. It is an interesting workout with variety, and Tracie's cuing is superb I think, and she's fun without being too perky. It just feel like it's OK for that day, but it didn't push me past my mark, didn't advance me at all. It would be a challenge for someone who's starting out with weights, but not intermediate/advanced. - posted by marlene on 3/10/2011
Best Butt Workout Ever!
I started with Tracie back when she was doing the firm, I loved her instruction style. She is even better with her series. It is a great overall work out, but I must say my but has never looked better. I enjoy the music the quick pace, the building on to new moves. I really enjoy her entire series! - posted by Raelene on 2/24/2011
She knows her stuff
I added this to my extensive collection of workout videos because I needed a good toning one that would be different and interesting. At first, I thought it was boring, but then as it progressed I got more out of it. Tracy is very business-like the whole time, she's pretty serious and instructs well. I think her visualization cues are exceptional. For example, when doing side squats, she would say "try to stay low like there's a ceiling closing in on you." or "put on the brakes....put on the gas" Those mental images really help. Her music is perfectly paired with the workout and its motivating. Overall, a great workout, my only suggestion for this would be for Tracy to lighten up and smile, because if she's having fun, we're having fun. - posted by Melissa on 12/9/2010
ok, it's a winner!!!!
Love-Love-Love it.. Tracie is excellent at telling you what to do and she does it with such ease I am 51 years young and I find this DVD really changes the body it works out different muscle groups.I have been exercising faithfully for 30 plus years and I find Tracie to make it interesting again, Thanks Tracie, I look forward to more.. - posted by Anne on 11/27/2010

Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
