Certified instructor description: A rhythmic blend of yoga, Pilates and modern dance. Designed to improve strength, balance and flexibility, it’s unusually energizing and fluid (no lengthly, static stretches). You’ll start with an extended “warm-up” — gently flowing reaching and opening moves. That’s followed by yoga/Pilates floorwork that includes lots of deep stretches plus a short ab toning series. It all ends with standing yoga postures that will lengthen and strengthen your entire body. Note: The workout is intermediate level, but it does include some challenging balance positions. ©2010. DVD has: Chapter menus, Wide screen.

Tracie Long's Focus: Reach Further

Reach For It All The Time
I love this workout! Not only is it a great stretch, there's a lot of work to strengthen your core and balance, too. It's such a good blend - relaxing and challenging at once. My posture is always noticeably improved after this one because of the exercises and Tracie's knowledge/excellent form pointers. I'm really grateful to have it in my collection. - posted by Em on 3/15/2012
Pleasantly surprised...More work than I thought it would be!
I purchased this stretch video to replace one that I used to have that is not available on DVD. I love Tracie Long and have been a fan for years, especially with The Firm. I was looking for a straight stretch video, but got more than I bargained for. The plank work is great and was really challenging to me (I am older and plank work is pretty new to me). I would definitely recommend this one for anyone looking to improve their flexibility, balance, and core strength. I will definitely be doing this one over and over as an off day relaxer! - posted by Blieu on 10/21/2010
Exercise technical difficulties
Your online video clips have been a wonderful time--and money--saver for me. They have helped me reduce the amount of duplication that my earlier collection has shown. And this time around, doing a preview with your video clips helped me sort out the item of Tracie's that was most unique to add to my stash of her enjoyable routines. As with her other dvd's and videos, this one is full of Tracie's creativity. My only complaint relates to my non-guru talent when it comes to operating the dvd. When the menu screen is up, it's challenging to determine which chapter (or the whole) of the dvd is highlighted; so, when I hit 'play,' I'm usually surprised as to which section gets activated. It's a shame to have technical difficulties in order to exercise. - posted by Lynn on 10/2/2010
Ehhh!
This is alright. You go right into warriors while you are still cold. It is okay, but I would not consider it a hard workout. I don't think you hold the poses long enough for it to be a good stretch. - posted by Lilliana on 9/2/2010
Moves too fast
The primary value of yoga for me is the focus on stretch and relaxation. Although Tracie uses many movements from yoga, they are hurried. It would be difficult to increase your flexibility or to unwind using this video. Other benefits of yoga: increasing balance, toning, increasing range of motion, etc. can be gained; but I prefer traditional yoga. - posted by Candace on 7/24/2010
Excellent Yoga-inspired workout!
This workout like the others have said is a yoga-inspired workout that has a slight pilates flavor for abs. This is not what one would classify as traditional yoga or stretching. If you want that, look elsewhere. It's fast paced and gets a lot accomplished in 30 minutes. It is broken up into 3 segments/chapters: Warm up-Yoga based, Pilates-infused Abs, and Balance Poses. If you are new to exercise the "warm up" will not be sufficient for you. For those of us who are Intermediate+, it is plenty. One of the big pluses I have to give for non-workout related comments is that the DVD quality is amazing! We just purchased a 60 inch Screen LG Hi-Def Tv and all other fitness DVDs in my collection look grainy. I expected that bc of the Hi-Def. But this DVD looks just fine, just like my other DVDs did with a smaller screen Tv. It's nice to not look at something blurry when working out! I like the music, the background, Tracie's cueing and personality. This is my first workout of her's and I have already purchased the remainder in her catalog. You will feel stretched out and worked out! I have heard that Tracie is the Queen of Functional Fitness and this holds true to style. Loved it! - posted by Fit Chic on 7/12/2010
good stretch, not so good music
it's a very good 30 min workout to do in the morning, I feel stretched and invigorated after doing it. (only thing I don't care for is the music). I am 65 but have been working out for 30 years, and it's just right for me. Thank you! - posted by Alice on 7/9/2010
Terrific!
I really enjoyed this workout. I felt both worked out and very stretched out at the same time. The first section is more traditional yoga poses but with lots of great variations. The second section focuses mostly on abs with great plank work. The third section focuses more on balance which I really liked and can always use practice! Tracy did a great job on this one. It was relaxing yet effective. Her pace was just right. Looking forward to doing this one again. I don't usually do much yoga (so many other workouts to fit in) but I hope to work this one into more of a regular rotation, which says alot for it! - posted by Cheryl on 6/13/2010
Great stretch
I love Tracie. This workout is exactly what it says. There is fast moving yoga, deep stretching, tough plank section, core, balance. And it is all in 30 min. I wouldn't call it a yoga video, but you will feel stretched out and warm all over. The stretching helps flexibility and lengthening of muscles so I like this for what it is. The core section is tough. - posted by Denise on 6/13/2010
Not What I Expected
I am an intermediate to advanced exerciser and a long term Firm classics fan. I really wanted to like this workout but did not care for it. First off the good: Tracie looks great. I like the changes to the set. The music was better than her prior workouts. This time the music was louder but not overpowering. I like the 30 minute format as it fits well into a busy schedule. The not so good: There was really no warm-up and surprisingly very little cueing. It was hard to follow if you weren’t looking directly at the TV. Typically cueing is one of Tracie's strongest traits. I felt the workout was rushed. You never get a chance to settle in and enjoy a position before moving to a new move. If you are a Yoga devotee you probably won't care for this. There are a couple of yoga inspired moves but they are very quick with little instruction. Honestly most of the exercises felt very awkward to me. The worked out is described as intermediate but some of the balance postures were advanced in my opinion. At the end I did not feel worked out or stretched out. I just felt.....annoyed. I loved Tracie with the Firm. Her first three Revolution videos (Core Foundations, Functional Strength, and Dynamic Stretch & Power) were awesome. Unfortunately those were DVD-R's and quickly degraded and now do not play. The moves in those felt really good to me – like something my body had been craving. I was hoping Reach Further might be similar. Much as I wanted to like it, I can not recommend Reach Further. - posted by Sally on 6/3/2010
Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
