Certified instructor description: It's a fluid, dancer-style workout — a balanced blend of ballet, yoga and standing Pilates. You'll gracefully firm and tone your buttocks as you increase total-body flexibility. It's specially designed for novice "ballerinas." Tracey begins with an 11-minute tutorial that demonstrates the safest and most effective techniques. She also limits the repetitions and emphasizes small movements — for example, short pulses instead of wide-ranging motions (but one exerciser also shows more challenging variations to use as you get stronger). Tracey's cuing is joyful, easy-to-follow and totally supportive ("if you're tired, take a break and come back"). DVD includes a bonus 14-minute abs/thighs matwork segment. Requires 2 to 5 lb. dumbbells. ©2011. DVD has: Wide screen.

Tracey Mallett's Booty Barre Beginners & Beyond

Great workout now, can grow into it, too.
LOVE this workout for several reasons. First, I need no equipment or even shoes! Finding a "barre" to use is simple. Second, it can be a SHORT (35 minutes) workout, or I can add the abs/butt section (15 minutes) for a longer one. Mostly I can DO IT and the instructor is excellent. Man, do my legs burn! It is plenty challenging for a beginner but one can really grow with this one as there are a few levels going on. Love the instructor; her cues are good, she constantly reminds about form and technique (making it very safe) and she is cute and fun without being annoying. Girlfriend has some seriously rockin abs! I am 52 years old, in decent shape and consider myself "intermediate" but this workout gets me sweating and makes me feel long and lean and toned. Can't wait to work up to the longer version and to try some of her new ones (Fuse Dance) coming out. Absolutely recommend. - posted by Babs on 5/10/2012
really like it
I love Ellen Barrett & Kari Anderson's ballet workouts, but like to have a variety of dvd's. Beginners & Beyond looked like a good place to start w/ Tracey Mallett. I have done this workout twice & I really enjoy it. I am at an intermediate level (going toward advanced) and found this nicely challenging. I will definitely get more of Tracey's dvd's. - posted by robin on 5/5/2012
Im new to barre workouts
I have always used the old firm workouts which are great , You will see results in about 10 to 12 days, but I am tired of this type of workout, I thought barre looked intriguing and I'm ready to use a different method to get toned. I have to say I bought the beginner because I don't have the flexibility I used to have, so I am working up to it, this workout is work if you are out of shape like me, if you have decent strength I think this is great for an easier day, or short on time. I personally am sweating and feel muscle fatigue when I can get through the entire 45 or 50 minute workout, I love how encouraging Tracey is, and I'm definitely, going to buy the next barre workout which is the original one she made. I however stretch out before I start this workout and after she is done, I need the extra so I don't pull anything. I certainly think is a great video to start learning the barre technique, this is fun and not dread, which is important to sticking it out. - posted by Deborah on 4/27/2012
like it
I really love the booty barre workouts and this one is great too. The reason I got this one is for when I'm short on time. I found this one a lot easier than her first two, I'm already doing the advanced moves so I can get the full workout in the short amount of time. I can't wait for her new videos! - posted by natalie on 4/19/2012
One quibble
I like everything about this workout except that it doesn't address the fact that a regular kitchen chair won't work as a barre for anyone who's very short. At 5'1", I simply can't maintain the upper body form as Tracey coaches in her tutorial because for me the top of the chair back is too high. (The young lady demonstrating the moves in the tutorial appears to be about 6 feet tall!) As soon as I come up with a substitute to use as a barre, I expect to be doing this workout regularly. It's fun and tough. - posted by Marsha on 3/21/2012
Really LIke This
The main part of this DVD, while not terribly long, makes me sweat. I'm 52 years young and try to work out 5 times a week, a lot of times at 4 am before work. Tracey is cheerful and infectious and after trying this about 8 times, it's even more challenging than when I started. The moves are fun, challenging, and incorporate some stretching. I think the main part is harder than the core segment, but it doesn't take long to do both segments, if you have the time. - posted by Kathy on 2/26/2012
Perfect!
The length of the workout and all the moves are perfect! Quite tough enough for me and I am not a beginner. I have her other Booty Barre workouts, but I reach for this one because the length is just right and it covers ALL the bases! Thanks Tracey! - posted by Tracy on 2/4/2012
Very nice barre workout
I have her first barre workout & it was just hard for me. I found this workout much more doable. Tracey is very good a cueing. She also includes various pointer to make the workout harder or easier as needed. I really enjoyed this workout. - posted by Stacey on 2/2/2012
enjoying this
this is my first barre dvd and i like it but i think it's little more "beyond" than "beginner". the tutorial is great and i think tracey is a good instructor, has good form and is good at cueing and reminding you on form like to keep the core engaged. enjoyable personality. the arms and the dance type moves add some variety and the length of 35 minutes is nice. i'm glad i've added this to my collection but doubt that i'll get another barre dvd. - posted by katie on 2/2/2012
Great video for a barre newbie
I LOVE this video! I've never had any ballet or dance training before so I appreciate the tutorial section a lot! Tracey gives great cues and I love her energy! I like how the video shows different levels all on one DVD. Most videos make you buy another DVD to advance to the next level. I can't wait to try the rest of the collection. - posted by Chloe on 1/16/2012
