Certified instructor description: A compact, fast-paced aero/tone interval workout — a very effective use of all three Firm Box configurations. By varying the tempo, movements and Box position, your body is constantly challenged in new ways. From traditional step aerobics on the low Box to the Firm’s signature leg presses on the high Box to lower-body-focused moves on the incline Box, it’s a boredom-busting medley of proven techniques (e.g. a traditional step routine feels completely different on an incline surface). The moves range from V-steps and repeaters to plyometrics and jump rope routines (without a rope). Requires 2 to 5 lb. dumbbells and The Firm’s inclinable Box (a regular step-bench can be used with unequal height risers). ©2004. The Firm: Express Cardio

I HATED IT!!
It's not a good workout video. They move way too fast for you! You won't even be able to keep up! They do a work out and move on to the next move. I wouldn't get it if I were you. - posted by DONT GET IT. on 8/7/2011
Dynamite little workout!
Excellent cardio workout for when you are short on time. I don't even think about quitting because it moves so quickly with little or no time in between sequences. I am always pumped and ready for the day after I do this. My only criticism is there are times when I need more cuing so I'm not playing catch-up but on the other hand, that just keeps my mind more engaged. (I'm an experienced exerciser but have learned that I can't handle advanced choreography and moderate choreography can be challenging for me). This is my favorite 30 minute cardio DVD. - posted by Kay on 8/21/2009
Brilliant workout
I REALLY enjoyed this DVD. Stephanie Huckabee is a fabulous instructor who I personally found to be excellent at cuing and highly motivating. The only section I struggled with at first is the step segment after the warm-up because it's fast moving and being quite new to step, I really didn't have a clue what moves the instructor was talking about. It wasn't her cuing that I had a problem with, rather the fact that the moves are not explained. After a couple of tries I think I've just about got all the moves right now and I really love the energy and pace of this workout. If you're after a quick and effective workout, then this should not disappoint. - posted by Gwen on 6/6/2009
I wish it was longer
I've been stepping for 13+ years and I consider myself to be proficient in advanced choreography, but these moves are basic and there is nothing wrong with the cueing. The pace is fast which is why it's a great cardio workout. If you've never done step aerobics, don't expect "to get it" the first time out...but keep trying. The comment "beginners, watch Libby" is a joke. Libby is barely visible for most of the routine. The spray on tans are pretty cheesy, too! All in all, a good routine. - posted by Cindy on 5/21/2009
Great workout
I only have time for 30-40 minute videos. This is my favorite 30 min Firm video. Nice pace. Gets your heart rate up. Does take a couple times to get the moves down but nothing is too complicated. The only reason that I did not give it 5 stars is because the step is a little hard on my knees. - posted by Nicole on 3/9/2009
Poor Cueing
The cueing for this video is terrible. She switches around quickly with no count down or direction until it happens. I suppose if you do this a few times it gets easier but it is difficult when you start out. - posted by Kim on 3/3/2009
Nonstop great cardio
I loved the w/o.It was easy to learn and do.Got a good sweat and it was over.I was happy to do a hour cardio in 30 minutes.Stephanie was great and I did not hear bad cuing;it was quick but I felt it came in plenty of time.all and all, thumbs up. - posted by Debra on 7/22/2008
Great cardio workout!
Stephanie is one of my favorite instructors. She comes through with this one, too! Its a great, fun, motivating, easy to follow workout that really gets the heart rate up, and its short, which is a nice option. You can use the transfirmer box for all of the workouts in this series (I got rid of the older box - well actually I use it as a shelf for shoes in my closet!) and love Cardio Express with the newer box. Stephanie is terrific, hope she does more workouts. Endorphins are flying in this workout - feels great! - posted by Maureen on 6/18/2008
awesome!
This is one of my favorites from The Firm, and I love Stephanie! It's constant aerobics packed into a half hour. It's non stop and goes by really fast. Super fun, high energy, and great when you're short on time. Great for cardio junkies! - posted by Wendy on 4/25/2008
PACKS A PUNCH!!!
This was an excellent, challenging, quick workout for the days that we want to be challenged but are short on time! Music is AWESOME!! This definitely moves quickly, without a lot of time for instruction...I'm okay with that b/c it's something to work towards but if it takes you awhile to learn the moves then preview this one for sure...it will be worth it! I hope the firm keeps on putting out more advanced workouts like this and maybe even a little longer in duration...I'm really glad that I got this one! - posted by Chris on 1/19/2008

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
sample time graph
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Step aerobics & toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The step aerobics segments involve stepping up and down on a platform. The moves range from simple stepping to more choreographed exercises. These segments require a step bench platform. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
