Certified instructor description: Designed for plus-size women, it’s an easy-to-follow program that’s safe, fun and motivating. You’ll burn fat as you build confidence and re-discover the joy of movement. It’s led by Debra Mazda — a high-energy, 165-pound fitness pro (who once weighed 310 pounds — she knows that “fitness comes in many sizes”). The moves are straight-forward but never boring; you’re sure to be shaking your shoulders and rolling your hips right along with this all-plus-size class. The workout also features intensity options that let you match the level to your situation. Includes a bonus 9-minute toning section. ©2008. DVD has: 4 premixes (19 to 54 min. alternate workouts.

ShapelyGirl: Let's Get Moving!

Good workout
I am 71 years old and way out of shape. I wish this were a bit slower, like about 108 bpm, but I don't think this video was meant for heavy seniors. My legs are very heavy, and I know I need to keep them moving - just not this fast. As a general workout for heavier gals, though, this is a great one! - posted by Gail on 5/10/2012
Instant favorite!
This is a wonderful video for beginners, especially for overweight folks who may be self-conscious about exercising. Debra and her cast are encouraging and positive. The workout has a great mix of cardio and toning, and alternates more intense work with active rest for a good but achievable workout. The moves are varied enough to be interesting, but simple enough for even my very uncoordinated self to be able to follow easily. The "pre-mixes" are really helpful, letting me tailor my workout intensity and length as my stamina increases. - posted by Jenna on 4/13/2012
Great workout!
Loved the pace and verbal encouragement. The plus size class working demonstrating alternative moves is an asset. The 8 count moves make it easy to follow and get in the rhythm. Loved the warm up and cool down. Very positive class! - posted by Amy on 4/9/2012
Fun and Good Workout
I enjoy shapely girl workouts. Debra is a great motivator. I will purchase more of her DVDs in the future. - posted by Lena on 1/26/2012
Good Workout
I liked the workout but did have one problem with it. The ladies are not sweating. If they are working as hard as they should be you would think they would sweat a little. I was not sure if I was over doing it or not because I was working up a sweat which I guess is good. - posted by Joni on 7/21/2011
good alternative for walking dvds
Debra has lots of motivation for full-sized people to get off the couch and move. Her circle time is a nice addition to a fast-paced, sure to make sweat workout. I wish she would cue changes of moves more plainly. Otherwise I like her, as an alternative to Leslie Sansone. She is sassy, brassy and she does keep you 'on your toes' and moving! - posted by vanessa on 6/24/2011
Good Beginner Video
I love this video, its great since I am just starting out. There are REAL women on here and these steps can be modified to any level. Debra makes it no nonsense and this video is just that...get moving everyday and everyday its easier and you can switch the intense level. - posted by Jamie on 6/16/2011
this IS fun
I did this one last evening; I LOVE the music, her motivation and her compassion for 'full size' women. Hers is a fast-paced workout, but she doesn't push you to keep up; do what you can TODAY. - posted by vanessa on 6/4/2011
Highly motivating
I absolutely love this video! Debra is so motivating. She entertains while she instructs. The moves provide a great workout and the music gets me moving. I also love the "bonus" sections on the video where Debra and the other ladies chat about fitness. I highly recommend this video! - posted by Danielle on 5/5/2011
FANTASTIC!!!!!
OMG, I can't believe how much I like this workout. I would it give it 10 stars, if I could! I have to say, this is so much better than Leslie's. If you are tired of Leslie, give this one a try. Music is Fantastic. You will break a nice sweat with this one. Steps are easy to follow and I have no problem with her cuing. Debra's energy is very contagious. She's very encouraging and no matter what size you are, she makes you feel great. This is not just for a plus size girls. Try it and you won't regret it. - posted by M on 5/3/2011

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Premixes
X
These are alternate workouts created by the manufacturer. They use the same content as the main program (i.e. the very same video footage). But the sections are re-edited into pre-made alternative workouts that you select from a menu. These are often condensed versions of the main workout.
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Floor aerobics
X
Definition: Fast-paced standing movements like marching, walking, dancing and jumping. Requires no equipment.

Benefits: Burns calories. Strengthens your heart. Increases stamina.
