Certified instructor description: Classic yoga with a unique approach — the poses are unusually slow and constantly moving. The slowness makes it mindful and challenging (e.g. a Cobra, that takes a full 10-count to lower, builds exceptional muscle control). While the non-stop sequencing makes it both graceful and extraordinarily efficient; your muscle fibers are always engaged. And, it’s all easy to follow because each series is shown three times (which allows you the time to get really comfortable with every progression). Throughout, Rodney’s one-on-one cuing is calm and precise — you’re sure to know exactly what to do even when you’re facing away from the TV. Pleasant indoor set. ©2005. DVD has: Music only option.

Rodney Yee's Yoga Burn

wonderful and meditative
This is a unique yoga practice with a intense, meditative quality that is especially wonderful late in the day. While being moderately challenging, the slow and repetitive nature of the practice is very calming and centering. There are definitely more challenging practices to be found, but I have not encountered any other which combines challenge with meditation in such a powerful way. Do it before bed, and you will sleep well and wake up feeling sleek and strong. - posted by Carrie on 3/25/2011
WOW
This yoga workout is so good. It is so challenging and I love it by the end of the workout I feel so relaxed and every time I can feel my core tightening. Sore the same day and the next day it is the perfect mix with the other Rodney workouts I have. - posted by Heather on 3/24/2011
Another classic Rodney DVD
A traditional approach to yoga: long holds in poses. One feels refreshed and invigorated when done. "Burn" is deceptive as title. Better to be called "Yoga Slow." That's a negative criticism. "Burn" to me is when your muscles quiver and there's an intensity/stress when holding poses. I've been doing yoga for twenty years and like to use this DVD for a well-guided workout, with Rodney telling me what to do, rather than my having to think. I like the option to set audio to Instructions only; no mumbo jumbo, just what poses to do with the soothing bgd music. - posted by Judy on 3/21/2010
Pure and Simple, Excellent Cueing
I really enjoy this video. I feel like I just get started and it's over! Relaxing and rejuvinating while challenging- a perfect mix and great for beginners (with modifications) to advanced exercisers- especially those new to Yoga. - posted by Gina on 12/30/2007
It's Slow, Great for Flexibility and Relaxation
I'm surprised people are complaining this is too slow. It's clearly labeled as slow. If you want fast, buy a DVD that doesn't describe itself as slow and mindful. This yoga workout challenged my arm strength even though I do weight workouts regularly. Weight work in a different way than doing a long series of downward dog movements. Also I really liked the music. It's very relaxing without being new age - kind of a lulling Hawaiian sound. I notice one other reviewer said the music was so loud she couldn't hear the instruction - I certainly didn't find that to be the case. I wonder if she got one with a screwed up sound track. I found the music non-obtrusive but very soothing and I could hear the instructions clearly. I like this dvd and think it's a nice alternative to my Brian Kest and Baron Baptiste collection. This is just what it says - very slow, continual movement with most poses being repeated in slow motion three times. I felt great afterwards. It's certainly not a cardio workout but then I've never done a yoga workout that was. - posted by Sharon on 12/6/2007
If you don't like it you're doing it wrong!
I paint murals for a living. It requires strength, stamina, endurance and often scaffolding. In order to maintain I cross train, aerobics, weight training, heavy bag, pilates and yoga. Kudos to the Firm and Rodney Yee. The slow stretch is the antidote to the insults my body takes on the job, keeps me flexible. I'm pushing 60, can wear the leather pants I wore before I was pregnant and have beautiful cholesterol. The slow yoga has a powerful meditative aspect, that keeps me centered. I reccomend it highly to those anxious people that are wound too tightly, and anyone who wants to be limber! - posted by Joey on 10/24/2007
too slow
I just found this too slow. My solution: hit the fast-forward button to 1.4 speed which retains the audio so the instructions can still be followed. Also, it was too repetitive. I would have preferred fewer repetitions and more poses. - posted by Linda on 10/20/2007

Slow and Meditative
Several people have commented on the slowness of the DVD. I think it is nice because it really forces you to focus on what you are doing and get the most out of every move. It is more meditative than a lot of other yoga DVDs I have. I found it very relaxing and I felt toned afterwards. - posted by Amy on 5/5/2006
More stretch than strength
I was prepared to love this one, because I prefer the slow, intense style of Brian Kest, but I was disappointed to find that it was just too easy. While I enjoyed the increased awareness that the reduced speed brought to the poses, the majority were just stretches and so not really that good for strength training. If you're looking for a good stretch program, though, I'd highly recommend this one. - posted by Amy on 2/27/2006
mindful yoga
I love this cd. It is very slow and constantly moving so I can really get into the breathing and depth of the positions. I do break out in a sweat because I can put so much effort into each position. I love it, I wish Rodney would do more slow continous moving videos. Also I am no beginner to yoga, I have been into yoga for 10 years and I get alot out of this video! - posted by susan on 2/17/2006

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
