Certified instructor description: A true “dance aerobics” program — both the style and the moves feature a dancer’s sense of fluidity and rhythm. Working out to authentic, two-beat Latin mambo music, you’ll burn fat as you shape your buttocks and abs with non-stop hip movements. Lots of music variation and tempo changes keep it interesting with choreography that’s not too overwhelming. From shimmies and swivels to back-steps and circles, the emphasis is on having fun and moving your body. For example, you never have to slow down to learn the routines. Instead, the video ends with a separate “how to” section demonstrating each step so you can learn the moves before doing the workout. Some vocal music. ©2002. DVD has: Chapter menus.

Red Hot Salsa with Lisa Nunziella

Good but not intermediate
I liked this video...but would rate it intermediate on choreography and beginner on exertion level. I had fun doing it but would only add it on after doing some other exercise. It just doesn't get your heart rate up the way some other dance videos do. And be very careful if you have bad knees, there are some twisting motions that I think would really bother anyone with osteoarthritis or knee issues. Overall I enjoyed it, but don't know how much total usage it will get in my collection - posted by Dee on 8/16/2010
I loved this workout
I'm surprised that the choreography is listed as complex. I've done a few dance workouts before, but I'm certainly no dance maven and I thought the choreography was moderate. As for the routine itself, I had so much fun!! I immediately clicked with Lisa's instructing style. Be warned that she counts the steps constantly throughout (2-3-4 6-7-and, 2-3-4 6-7-and). It's very similiar to the repetitive counting in Taebo, so if you know that bothers you, maybe pass on this. Personally, I REALLY liked Lisa counting the steps because it kept me on beat. Also, if you don't like TIFTing, you probably won't like this one as it's taught add on style with lots of repetition. The same stretches are repeated at the beginning and at the end of the workout, but most of it is dynamic stretching (e.g. shoulder rolls, rib isolations, reaching overhead, rounding forward). Only the last 1-2 minutes is static stretching. For those who exercise on carpet, there was just one move (a fast pivot) that may be difficult. The treads on my sneakers are low and didn't cause any problems. - posted by Martha on 10/16/2009
I'm Sad
I was doing great on the warm up, then suddenly lost control! I wanted to give a dance workout a chance, given that I have only done Tamilee's Fit to the Hits video. But this was too fast for me! It was really hard to do this on carpet that's for sure! Well, I gave it my best shot, but it looks like it's a give away. I'll save the crazy dancing for parties, I'm less likely to fall over my own feet that way. Sorry guys, but I'm gonna say thumbs down! - posted by Cynthia on 3/3/2009
Would not recommend
I could not agree more with Kim's (posted on 1/7/2006) comments. While the dance is ok, it is repetative and as a result, I was bored very fast. If you are an exerciser who enjoys a repetative routine, you would enjoy this. I, however, like variety and would recommend a video where you do several different routines, such as Zumba. - posted by Jennifer on 8/11/2008
I feel like a real salsa dancer!
I used to watch people dancing salsa and thought it wasn't for me, but having mastered all three of Vanessa Isaac's Brazilian dance-based workouts, I really wanted to learn another Latin genre. I am so glad Collage Video keeps Red Hot Salsa Made Simple around because now I've picked up a few moves to use on the dance floor! I love Lisa Nunziella's teaching style: She doesn't get too technical, and she drills us on the steps over and over, but not so that it feels boring. Nunziella is a star, and I feel lucky to be learning salsa in the true ballroom style. I had to go through the Learn the Steps section several times before I could keep up with the pace of the workout, but the time and effort was well worth it. I can't wait to try Red Hot Salsa: Extra Hot! - posted by Elena on 3/16/2008
Red Hot Salsa
I liked this video so much, I never saw myself dancing Salsa but thought I would give this a try, I have been using other fitness type videos, maybe dance would help me loose weight. Well it really did. I learned the moves, not too hard and the harder i dance the better these get. I want to thank Lisa for Re-Motivating my workouts! - posted by Honey on 11/1/2007

Beginner To Salsa!!
I am a beginner in salsa dance, and this DVD was my first purchase of a salsa DVD. I love it! The moves are a challenge, it keeps my heart rate up, and watching her and her dancers really inspire me to dance! I can only hope she'll come out with another DVD of more salsa moves. And I do appreciate the breakdown of all the moves. Now, I just have to work on getting them down! - posted by Veronica on 2/5/2007
I like it!
Yes, you build it one move at a time, but this is good for those of us who have rhythm but have never done salsa. I enjoy this video. I got her second volume and find it more difficult, but am willing to keep trying it (but only on weekends when I'm not in a rush to get a quick cardio fix). - posted by Amber on 11/27/2006
Is it Hot Yes & even your Mama will learn a few new moves
I have always been troubled by those last few pounds but lately its no problem. Its like I was a Latina by birth. The music is caliente and anyone can do this! Try this one. Lisa can show you in heartbeat how easy it is and then show them on Saturday night! It really is Hot! - posted by Lourdes on 7/12/2006

Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
