Prevention: Better Belly Yoga

Good
I have tried this one several times have not been able to do all of it yet. It's hard if you're not used to doing Yoga. I have another Yoge DVD and it's great, but this one does the downward dog and a few other moves that I'm not strong enough yet to do. Not for me
My personal feelings towards this DVD would want to rate this at a Zero, but bc it is good for modifications and it is true to Prevention's style, I did rate it 2 stars (1 for each). I myself at a begin/inter level with yoga and I much prefer the workouts from Element, Gaiam, and Sara Ivanhoe. Prevention's workout for me, is choppy and I am not able to focus on my poses. For me, there is a lack of meditation, proper flow, and stretch/release that comes with more serious forms of yoga regardless of exercise level. The colors for the background are true to Prevention's prior sets, but it IMO, wasn't the best choice for a Yoga practice. I bought this DVD sometime ago and was looking for a shorter yoga workout this morning that I could get in being short on time. After finishing this DVD, I tossed it in my trade/sell pile. It does show modifications for those with little flexibility and those that are very flexible. She seems pleasant, but IMO, is lacking when you compare her side-by-side to other serious instructors. Great if traditional yoga and instructors are too boring for you. This just didn't fit me at all. - posted by Julia on 3/4/2010
Love it!
This is an awesome yoga workout and I am glad that I bought it. I also love Desiree. I think that she is a fabulous yoga instructor and am happy to work out with her twice a week! I'm Hooked!
My first yoga DVD, and I'm hooked. Never thought I'd enjoy or find a slow-moving exercise exciting or challenging. Was I wrong! This DVD aims for the belly but does provide a pretty good workout for the whole body. And it is effective! It also provides modifications for all levels of exercisers and is easy to follow. I'm moving up from this one now, but must say I enjoyed it and am passing it onto a friend who has never tried yoga! - posted by Lenore on 1/31/2009
My belly looks fab!

Bad background for Yoga!
I own almost all Prevention Fitness System. I always love them because of energic moves and segments. Finally, a Yoga one came out! I tried it twice. The instructor talked too much at the beginning of each segment. I have to wait to start. The moves are pretty good. But, the worst of all is same boring background, big white stripes with one lilac stripe. That is typical background Prevention is using. I don't mind doing cardio with it because of speedy moves. But, not with yoga because it requires time to focus on stretch, moving to different position slowly. My eyes tend to focus on something and then on instructor. I rather something lively like nature or something new, not that boxed background. It is hard to find right yoga dvd between Gaiam dvd(perfect background but sometimes too lengthy workout) and Prevention dvd(short and fun but boring background). I keep on searching for perfect ones. A new Denise Austin's Yoga Burn dvd is on way to our home. I'll see if it is great. - posted by Robin on 12/19/2007
A Good Yoga Workout
I am a certified Yoga instructor, and found this still fun and challenging. I have to say I thought I would be sore the next day, because it does have some really good stretching going on, but I wasn't. Reading a Time Graph

Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Stretch type

Athletic: Traditional sports-style, all-physical stretches. It is the least mind-body focused.

Yoga: Carefully designed poses that emphasize breath, concentration and mental awareness. It also includes the more flowing yoga style – Power Yoga.

Tai Chi: All-standing, very fluid poses (it looks like a person moving in slow-motion). The Chinese called Tai Chi "meditation in motion."

Stretch: Yoga
