Certified instructor description: Petra starts with familiar step patterns, then gradually transforms them into innovative new combos. It’s a motivating technique that keeps you engaged — and always burning fat — while you learn the new combinations. Petra’s variations range from subtle to dynamic. They include changes in rhythm, tempo, direction, step usage and sequencing (e.g. a “five knee repeater” becomes a “knee, step ball change” followed by a “three knee repeater”). Petra’s instruction is excellent. She previews every move while using both hand and verbal cuing to keep you on track. ©2007. DVD has: Chapter menus.

Petra Kolber's Step Moves, New Grooves

Good step video
I thought this was good, there was nothing special about it. I found it easy enough to follow, probably about "Intermediate" level choreography for me. If you've done a lot of step before (provided it's current and not form the 1980s!) you should do fine with this video. The intensity was moderate, not too light, not too intense. All in all a good, solid step video. This wasn't my favorite of Petra's videos, but she is just such an excellent instructor and great person, you can't help but love her! - posted by Jennifer on 5/17/2012
great!
unique moves with easy to follow choreography! - posted by jo on 4/27/2012
No Way Choreography
I consider myself an advanced stepper and due to being bored thought I would try something new - I've never done Petra before. They were right, the choreography is complex, way too complex for me. I could not follow; had to stare at TV more than get a workout. For those who consider themselves able to handle very advanced choreography you would enjoy as it is lively and fast paced. For me, I have to send back and apparently need to stay away from complex choreography. - posted by Michelle on 2/11/2012
Fun
My first Petra Kolber video was PK Step and I did not have trouble following the choreography at all on this one. This is a really fun workout that makes the time fly by fast. What I love about Petra is she does not make you keep going back to the beginning which can get old, but makes the workout a little harder to learn. She also does all the combos on the right and then all of the combos on the left which is a nice change. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys advance choreography at an intermediate aerobic level. - posted by Heidi on 12/14/2011
LOVE IT!
I have had this one a long time and never wrote a review. I did it today, again, and thought I would chime in. This workout is just plain fun. The moves are great and there is no dread factor at all. Petra's cueing is superb. I have had this workout since it came out and it is in my regular rotation. Once you get the moves down, it's easy, so keep at it. They are easy to get after a few tries. To keep my heart rate up a bit more, in between passes, instead of doing hamstring curls, I will jog up onto the step and put a little more impact in. That is what is fun about workouts at home. You can add in or take out what you want. Get this and keep at it. The more you do it, the more you will love it. I still love it after 4 years. - posted by Jill on 9/28/2011
Time flies by
This is a fun workout, and makes time fly by. It takes a while to learn the moves, but that means it won't get boring too quickly. Good workout with no dread factor! - posted by Kate on 6/30/2011
Tough to pick up, but really fun
This video was a bit challenging. The steps were 'new' as Petra states. It takes a bit of time to get used to the new steps. At the beginning Petra suggests watching the whole video once over, which probably would have been beneficial, but I did not watch it. - posted by Umme on 12/10/2010
Petra Rocks!
I love this video, because Petra is a great instructor. It's perfect for me because it's not too high impact, not too complex but not simple enough to be boring, either. I don't know that it is advanced level, but maybe because Petra makes it easy to follow through the sequences. - posted by Renee on 6/17/2010
Great instructor!
Before finding this DVD, I already had Petra's late '90s Step Reebok Rhythm & Moves VHS tape (can't seem to find that one on DVD) which I also really enjoy. Petra does a really great job of building up the complexity of her final choreography, so even if you haven't done the tape for a few weeks, you don't feel overwhelmed by the choreography. She also does a very good job with her cues. That said, it still took me a couple of times to get through the tape perfectly. Her personality is also authentically friendly and good natured. It feels nice to have her as your instructor. :) - posted by Beth on 4/15/2010
Great Fun Workout
This is a really fun workout that will get your heart rate up. Petra's personality and cueing are fantastic. I would not label this as ADVANCED or COMPLEX. I would give it more of an intermediate and moderate choreography because I was able to get all of the moves the first time around. The blocks are so fun however, and run together smoothly and there is no dread factor. This is a great workout for me when I want a fun step workout that is not too complex or advanced and when I don't want to do a really tough step workout that day. - posted by Jill Sherry on 12/3/2009

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
