Certified instructor description: A fluid program that alternates pure aerobic intervals with aero/tone segments (a cardio-focused format that's guaranteed to keep your heart rate elevated). The aerobic sections are high impact and physically intense, but they're also straight-forward and easy to follow. It's the aero/tone segments that are distinctive — non-stop, multi-muscle exercises in well-transitioned progressions (e.g. a squat to a "squat with a one-arm press" to a "lunge with a squat drop," that ends with a "Spiderman lunge"). The entire sequence is fast-paced and constantly changing. It all ends with a tough ab toning section. Super-high-energy cuing; Patrick is just having fun. Requires two sets of dumbbells (e.g. 5 and 10 lb.). ©2011. DVD has: Chapter menus, Wide screen.

Patrick Goudeau's Extreme Calorie Burn

Good but...
This workout is ADVANCE a lot of up and downs...a lot of inter connective moves, builds up a sweat, Goudeau is as always energetic and charismatic, but there are no modifications, and it is a little fast paced....I did my own modifications on some moves just to avoid injury, after 45 minutes I had no more energy to continue and I am an Inter/Advance exerciser, I also run. Calorie burner for sure. - posted by Aimee on 5/11/2012
Fun, does the job
This is fun, Patrick is fun, workout is challenging and effective....all in all an A++. More please! - posted by Gina on 4/15/2012
Hardest Workout Ever
I'm an advanced exerciser who has a hard time finding workouts that are challenging. This one knocks me out! At this point, I still have to modify about half the exercises, because, about 20 minutes into it, I'm too beat to do them at Patrick's level with good form. Don't get me wrong-- I count that as a good thing! I look forward to improving my fitness level with this workout. As always with Patrick-- great music, great cuing, and so much variety, the time flies by. Get this one if you want a challenge. - posted by Susan on 4/5/2012
surprise
don't care for Patrick but this DVD is great! moves are not complicated & fast-paced yet fun! - posted by Lisa on 3/24/2012
If you're not an advanced level athlete, look for another DVD!!!!!
I LOVE THIS DVD. It takes me to the brink of my fitness level and keeps going!!! I have always been a person who enjoys high impact/intensity workouts and Patrick delivers on this DVD. He is not only your coach, but he gets down and dirty and performs a majority of the routines along with his team. I'm still not able to complete the DVD without stopping 2 or 3 times, but I won't let that deter me from popping it into my DVD player twice weekly. - posted by Gloria on 3/17/2012
GREAT IDEAS
I love Patrick's DVDs. I think his variations are innovative and fun. Exercise can get boring if you keep doing the same thing over and over. He changes it up often, while keeping your heart rate up and not losing the audience to sudden changes and complicated movements. I am an instructor and I love using some of his ideas in my own classes. Great job Patrick !! Keep it up and keep offering your great DVDs. - posted by Laureen on 3/8/2012
Tough, challenging, great workout!
I love advanced workouts like Cathe Friedrich, etc. and was looking for something new and challenging with weights and found everything I was looking for and more in this workout! Patrick is a very good instructor. Some moves were a little tricky to execute but still I was able to keep moving, modifying until I caught on to get a really good workout without having to stop. If you like advanced workouts where you really sweat and feel really accomplished when you're done, I believe you will not be disappointed in this one!! - posted by Linda on 3/8/2012
Very Advanced - Watch your Form!
Like others have said, this is very challenging and there are a lot of quick moves up and down, bending and twisting while holding weights. If your form is not 100% and your weights are too heavy your back might suffer. I'm an advanced DVD exerciser (Cathe, Dozois, Katami, Art of Strength, Ilaria, etc.) and this DVD is definitely advanced. I had to modify several times to keep it safe for me and also to allow for heavier weights, because I know, one wrong move and your back could hurt for a while. Overall I liked it, but not as well as Lean Hot Body which I think is his best one to date. (Another good one is Kitchen Sink). Also, he must be reading reviews because he never said 'oh my gosh' in this DVD (not that I noticed anyway). Patrick is very likable and cues well. - posted by holly on 3/4/2012
Just what I was looking for
I am always on he lookout out for a challenging, total body workout with high energy intervals that won't bore me. And Extreme Calorie Burn exceeded my expectations. Like other reviewers, I was drenched in sweat by the end. It's the workout I do when I have to miss a super challenging Tabata-like group fitness class at the gym. But I echo Mark's warning about your lower back. The moves aren't dangerous, but they do require a very tight core and careful attention. I had a sore back to begin with and I really felt those tight muscles the next day. - posted by Cimberli on 2/24/2012
SO SO
At first i was very excited about this new intense interval training! this workout is super intense and the moves are VERY DIFFICULT!!! However, I do like a challenge-but i am totally not ready for this one! I returned it! i will give it four stars....due to the intensity and variation! I will definately try in the future. - posted by Jojo on 2/23/2012

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Chapter menus
X
You can play only the individual workout segments you want by picking them off a chapter menu (one at a time).
Wide screen
X
The program fully fills a wide-screen television screen. Note: These videos will display black bars at the top and bottom on a traditional 4 x 3 ratio TV screen.
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Floor aerobics & toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The aerobics segments are fast-paced standing movements like marching, dancing and jumping. These segments require no equipment. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against a resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
