Certified instructor description: A fun, just-let-yourself-go workout that’s filled with African, hip hop and Latin choreography. It’s fast-paced, dancy and also easy to follow. Most of the moves are “African infused” variations of familiar classics like mambos, cha chas and box steps (often combined with hops, turns, chest pops and “fast feet” for variety). Each routine is broken down, practiced and then added on to make a complete combo. MaDonna’s energy and passion are contagious. The entire class is having fun — sometimes following MaDonna, sometimes integrating their own moves, spirit and style. ©2004. DVD has: Chapter menus, Music only option.

MaDonna Grimes' Dance African Beat

I Really Enjoy This Video
I've had this video on my shelf forever, and finally decided to open it. I was glad I did. The choreography is fun, and you do sweat a bit. Just like some of the other reviewers, I fell that it is too short, but it's enjoyable nonetheless. I also love the 10-minute bonus workout. You really do feel all those squats! Lastly, MaDonna Grime's personality is upbeat, but not overly so to the point of annoyance. Since I started using the video, its been a part of my workouts at least a couple of times a week. - posted by Gabrielle on 4/15/2012
Pleasantly Surprised!!
I was looking for something new, and this is it! I was only disappointed that it wasn't a little longer. I was moving my body in ways I have never done before. MaDonna's routines are fresh and invigorating. Her instruction was good and easy to follow. It will make a great addition to my aerobics library. In a word this workout is –FUN --5 stars. - posted by Regina Thompson on 1/17/2012
Fun!
A fast and fun workout. The chatter (which doesn't get old after my many uses) appears unrehearsed, and adds to the liveliness. - posted by Mary Ann on 2/19/2011
Africa Dance
I'm sorry I paid $20 for this video. The Choreography was simple enough and easy to learn but it was so short! I would have wanted 3-4 times longer for a workout. Then at the end the whole cast does their own dance so I felt I was paying to see a bunch of dancers perform. It's not about them, it's about the customer getting what they paid for. I won't buy any of her videos again. - posted by Mary on 5/13/2010
Too short!
I'm sorry to have to be critical of this video. I've done a lot of dance and aerobic videos, and I could tell right away that Ms. Grimes is an awesome instructor and choreographer. However, I must warn you that the only thing "beginner" about this is that it is very short. The moves are complex, and I like that she doesn't break it down--she does it, and I pick it up along the way. If she had made three routines instead of one, I would give this ten stars!!! However, I hardly broke a sweat. The "bonus workout" was, I'm not kidding, half squats and half crunches. Nothing you couldn't do on your own. The little show they put on at the end just makes me mad that they couldn't have taught us those moves as well. - posted by Jo on 1/18/2008
Nice!
Madonna is very good at demonstrating the moves in the warm-up. Cueing is very good and lots of repetitions. This is a very good work out, combines latin and african moves. lot of fun. - posted by Tiffany on 8/30/2007

The Most Fun I Have Ever Had Exercising!
The instructor is so authentic. The choreograhphy is complex, but not too complicated. I felt like I was exercising with a group of friends, because we joke and encourage each other. It is a light hearted approch to working out. I pop this video in on those days when I just don't feel like working out, and within 3 min. I am enjoying a fun workout. Try it, It is off the chain. - posted by La Tanya, Mobile, AL on 5/31/2005
Fun Choreography
I like this one. The music was pretty good and I thought the choreography was fun! The workout could have been a little longer and MaDonna's cueing could have been a little better. Also, after demonstrating one step, MaDonna and the background exercisers waste a lot of time congratulating each other every time they perform the step - it was a waster of time. I just marched in place during those moments. All in all, this was a fun workout! - posted by Tammy on 1/8/2005
Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
