Certified instructor description: This "backside" workout focuses on your buttocks, legs and back (it's designed to be used in conjunction with Jillian's similar "frontside" DVD). The workout features straight-forward aero/tone circuits — sequences that alternate between aerobics and body-sculpting. However, in addition to the “workout,” Jillian also includes information about fitness (e.g. while you’re exercising, she explains the “hows” and “whys” of each movement). The program is filmed like an actual personal training session with Jillian. She’s one-on-one with her client, offering technique tips plus lots of her legendary motivation/encouragement. Requires an X-ertube and 3 to 5 lb. dumbbells. A small, 4-inch-high “step box” is also optional. No music. Includes motivational interviews with successful weight losers. ©2006 (discontinued and then re-released in 2010). DVD has: Chapter menus, Region 1.

Jillian Michaels for Beginners: Backside

SAME thing again!
I bought the backside and the frontside and I am giving the same review. Its dreadful. The all white background is horrible. Its not motivating and interesting. I am very dissapointed in Jillian. She could have put a bit of efforts in background, soft music, etc... - posted by Cheryl on 12/22/2010
Very Beginner workout!
I got this thinking it would at least be challenging but it is not. I know the level says beginner but I have other beginner exercise DVDs from other instructors and some of them are still challenging. I don't like the fact that the background is only white. I was getting dizzy after awhile. I agree with Silvia who commented first, this DVD is very boring! - posted by Carla on 12/14/2010
good! beginner dvd-note!
this is a good overall beginner dvd.it has cardio intervals interspersed with isolated muscle type weight training exercises. It is easy to follow-NO choreography..it is Jillian with one other person (all past contestant) rotating people with each circuit. The background is solid white as she is a stickler for form for each exercise and the solid white background causes a siluette effect really helping her show proper form/technique.It is MUCH easier than no more trouble zones dvd and all the rest of her dvds-she explains each move thoroughly even verbally giving it's individual benefits which 1 really like!great dvd for beginners or people dealing with injuries yet am sure many of her fans will not realize this and expect it to be like her other dvds and be disappointed- - posted by dulcy on 12/11/2010
What was Jillian thinking!
OH!my Gosh. A friend of mine lent me this DVD that she purchased recently and she told me she wasn't crazy about it so I wanted to try it...this dvd is awfully boring! Boring and white...What was she thinking? The background is white, there's nothing else but her and 1 other person and the exercises were not even that great! What's going on Jillian. Don`t waste your money, really, after 5 minutes, I couldn't take it anymore... - posted by Silvia on 12/10/2010
Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Chapter menus
X
You can play only the individual workout segments you want by picking them off a chapter menu (one at a time).
Region 1
X
This DVD is designed for US and Canadian DVD players. It will NOT play in most foreign country players.
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Floor aerobics & toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The aerobics segments are fast-paced standing movements like marching, dancing and jumping. These segments require no equipment. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against a resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
