Certified instructor description: Definitely not “striptease.” This is a genuine fat-burner — fast-paced and well cued, with lots of sexy, showgirl-inspired moves. It’s all done to hit songs like “Lady Marmalade,” “I'm a Slave 4 U,” “On the Floor,” “Don't Cha” and “Can’t Touch It.” So, as Shanna Missett Nelson says, “ditch those inhibitions and just have fun!” Her add-on cuing keeps it playful and varied. The moves range from sultry booty shakes, chest pops and shimmies to more traditional ball changes, step touches and tangos (for added fun, each song ends with a dramatic “showgirl pose”). Includes a short standing leg-toning series. Sexy pink outfits. ©2011. DVD has: 2 premixes (10 & 20 min. alternate workouts), Wide screen.

Jazzercise: Burlesque

Good dance workout-don't let it frustrate you
I got a little frustrated the first time I did this but kept thinking about it and found the second time I picked up on the choreography much easier. I've never been a jazzercise fan particularly but I did like Shanna Missett Nelson who keeps it friendly but low key and gives some good form pointers. A few of the things I liked: several background exercisers keep the video visually interesting, there is a new routine for each song instead of endless TIFT-ing, and Shanna and company understand this is first and foremost both an exercise video and made primarily for women so although sexy moves are mentioned, they aren't the focus (and no one is making sexy pouty faces back at me.) Do be careful on some of the moves: there is a lot of back popping and you could hurt yourself if you don't pay close attention to proper form. There are a few high impact moves but they can be modified easily enough. The toning segment at the end is really unique. - posted by Vanessa on 5/22/2012
Boredom buster
I am an advanced exerciser and sometimes it is nice to take a break from the really tough workouts and do one that is just more fun than you can shake a stick at. That is where this workout comes in. This is the answer to those days where you don't know what to do for a workout, you know you need to workout, but your don't really want to. In 5 minutes you will be losing yourself in the music and the moves and you are smiling and having fun! I am not a dancer, but this workout makes me feel like I am. It is easy to follow and the cueing is great. I am so glad I purchased this one. It should be in everyone's collection! - posted by Karen on 5/18/2012
Fast choreography but fun
This video is fun, very dancy as expected. Next time I will do it in bare feet. Tennis shoes on carpet just didn't work for me though I am a dancer and used to bare feet. It is a good rainy day cardio workout. - posted by Raychel on 5/17/2012
burlesque jazzercise
I thought this would be to easy, but I was wrong. This is an outstanding workout, fun but will make you sweat. Shanna does a wonderful job with the ques yes you have to do the workout a couple of times to get the patterns but right from the start you can do this. Intermediate might be a stretch because I consider myself a beginner level but I think for an aerobic workout anyone will enjoy this. - posted by Kim on 5/17/2012
Great Fun!
I did Jazzercise classes in the 90's and loved it....now I am married with children and a full-time job and can't make it to classes when they are offered, so I do all of my workouts at home. I have another Jazzercise DVD and love that and quickly ordered this after watching a clip on Collage. I love this workout. It's fun, quick paced, and well cued with great music. The time flew by so fast that I couldn't believe when it was over that I had been working out for 45 minutes. - posted by Kaye on 5/12/2012
Good, fun DVD
I am a 66 yr. old intermediate exerciser with no dancing talent but I really enjoy doing this dvd. It did take me a couple of times doing the video before I got some of the dance steps down but it is such fun and the time flies by. Shanna does a good job with the instructions and the music is great. I plan to use this often along with my other videos. - posted by Diane on 5/11/2012
Great Video
I'm 70 years old and have been doing Jazzercise for 40 years. This is a very active and sexy video. Excellent workout. Keeps all muscles toned and in shape. Love it!!! - posted by 2stepr on 5/10/2012
Like It
I really like that the music that is playing are songs that are played on the radio, so you can sing with...Shanna sings with too. The moves are fun and not complex. I love the fact that the instructors are not all a size 2 with 6 pack abs. They are all fit, but are normal. I don't feel lost when learning the sequences. Fully enjoying the DVD. - posted by Stacy on 5/5/2012
Fun!
Just a lot of fun. Not the most challenging workout I've ever done, but great on days when I want to work out and just enjoy myself or for a little more cardio. The set is cute and the music is lively; each Jazzercise instructor does the moves in her own way and that works for me because I like to try the variations. Shannon is a great dancer/instructor. It follows the standard Jazzercise format you'd get in a live class. - posted by Sue on 5/4/2012
Great Video
This video was absolutely the best workout I've ever had. It was fun, had the latest music. The instruction was easy to follow and makes you feel sexy. You will definitely have a good time with this one. - posted by jjaysplace on 5/4/2012

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Premixes
X
These are alternate workouts created by the manufacturer. They use the same content as the main program (i.e. the very same video footage). But the sections are re-edited into pre-made alternative workouts that you select from a menu. These are often condensed versions of the main workout.
Wide screen
X
The program fully fills a wide-screen television screen. Note: These videos will display black bars at the top and bottom on a traditional 4 x 3 ratio TV screen.
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Floor aerobics & toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The aerobics segments are fast-paced standing movements like marching, dancing and jumping. These segments require no equipment. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against a resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
