Certified instructor description: An intense series of innovative exercises led by an equally intense instructor. The moves work multiple muscle groups at once — a time-efficient technique that provides fast results. The exercises are exceptionally varied and often very creative. They include one-dumbbell, kettlebell-type routines and “pulsed” martial arts-style moves (in addition to more familiar planks, rows and push-ups). Each of the four circuits is done once, then repeated (so you can focus on form the first time, then add heavier weights on the second pass). Ilaria is tough — she’s passionate about the exercises and your success. Super-motivating music, the on-set drummer sets the perfect rhythm. Requires two sets of dumbbells (e.g. 5 lb. and 10 lb.). ©2010. DVD has: Chapter menus, Wide screen.

Ilaria's Atletica Workout

Good workout for the core but...
I liked the moves in this workout because they really got my core engaged every time. The drums were incredibly annoying. I do this workout with sound Off which I don't like because it means I miss the instructor's cues but it's preferable to 60 minutes of monotanous, pounding drum beat. - posted by Susan on 4/12/2012
My new favorite workout
A lot of the reviews I read spoke negatively of the drums and the amount of repetitions. Personally, I thought the whole workout was excellent!! I have been a big fan of Cathe Friedrich for years and it was time to make a change Ilaria's style really fits with the type of workout I'm looking for. Ha! I even did the 50 push-ups from my toes...and my shoulders and back are changing in ways I never thought possible. - posted by Angela on 3/29/2012
She means business!
What a fun, challenging and innovative workout! I'm in a pool of sweat while writing this (yes, I'm going to take a shower right after finishing this review). New and effective moves and a pretty nice instructor. I read about how others consider this one a boring workout. This is not dancy or cute at all. It is a really well put together, athletic (as the name says it) and tough workout. I didn't mind the repetitions since Ilaria didn't even let me have time to think. This is fast paced! Definitely one of my favs since I'm pretty sure my body is in a complete state of muscular confusion right now and I'll see results. - posted by Sofi on 3/23/2012
ok but boring
I was really excited to try this video after reading the reviews but I found it boring. Maybe it is an effective workout but the number of repetitions for each exercise was too many for me. Ilaria is a likable instructor I just didn't care for the workout. I would try another one of her workouts. - posted by Mary on 2/27/2012
Great Instructor
I bought this video based off of the reviews I read here and I must agree, Ilaria is a great instructor!! I feel like I am working out with my "personal", personal trainer. I love the way she teaches you the workout so that you can have correct form. I highly recommend this video! - posted by S. King on 2/22/2012
MADE ME SWEAT!!
I found this to be a great total body workout. I used heavy weights and really felt it. The drums can be a tad bit annoying, but you tune them out after a while. I am sure I will be feeling the pain even more tomorrow. - posted by Linda on 2/20/2012
ATLETICA
Love her DVDs. Love this one as well. But the bongo drums have TO GO!!! Its the same thing over and over and over again !!! Wish I could turn off the drums. - posted by Mary on 2/20/2012
This is a first rate workout!!
This is advanced but doable. It is total body and you'll feel it the next day! I got winded at the end but I was encouraged knowing I was almost done. My weak spot is always push ups and you do them in this work out as well. Ready to hit the showers when you're done. The music doesn't bother me and the cool gym setting is perfect for this level of exercise. This is a well produced, professional routine. I know I will get RESULTS from this workout. - posted by Andrea on 2/17/2012
Tough but repetitive
I wanted to love this dvd because Ilaria is a great instructor and I love the functional exercises. It is a more unique approach. However, I was bored with the repetition. The drums did not help as the performer never seemed to change the cadence! It just made it even more monotonous. Also, I am surprised no one has mentioned the woman to Ilaria's left. She looks like she intended to go to the burlesque workout down the hall. Her hips were swaying around as she lifted the weights and I am pretty sure that she was the one making the distracting grunting noises. I had to take a full star away because she is such a distraction. Background performers are important. - posted by Valerie on 2/17/2012
Definitely purchase this one
This workout is killer and I can't praise it highly enough. I own about 150 DVDs and am an advanced exerciser. It takes a lot to get me sore, but I could barely even walk today. Like a previous reviewer said, I was expecting to feel it in my arms and shoulders so it came as a surprise that my legs and core were so sore. These exercises are functional movements at their very best; every set worked my entire body at once, so by the last few reps I was out of breath and my muscles were totally fatigued. The moves are deceptively simple and low impact, but wow, are they intense. Ilaria once again delivers a top-quality product. You will not regret this purchase. - posted by Jen on 2/9/2012

Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
