Gilad's Step Aerobics

awesome!!!
I love this step workout! I had one pound dumbbells for a more advanced version, but on it's own it is very affective. I do this one the most of all my video workouts. It is so easy to follow too and that makes it so much more fun! - posted by sharon on 5/15/2012
One of the Best! Absolutely Five Stars!
I have stepped for 20 years to many step aerobic videos, from Fonda to Smith, and for me, this step aerobic video from Gilad is the best. Slightly challenging (8" step) and well instructed. By the end of routine 4 I am sweating like crazy. I appreciate Gilad's clear instructions, combinations, routines, and the scenery (much nicer than a studio setting). My nitpiks include his almost funny and frequent incorrect use of "one more time" when he should say, "again", in one spot Gilad incorrectly states the next step, and about 1/5th the time he has you facing away from the screen (you do not rotate the step in this video). But these are really just nitpiks, it is a great video. I have been using it 5-6 days a week for several weeks and have not got tired of it yet. Look forward to shopping for and buying another Gilad video. Definitely 5 stars in my book and hard to beat the Collage video price. - posted by Jack on 4/19/2012
Basic but good
I purchased this DVD because I use to do Gilad on tv all the time but I hate the commercials. I also am not a dancy person, I like to work out and get my heartrate up not spend half the time trying to figure out the steps. This is it, basic steps which I liked. As I have been working out now for almost 30 years I know how to implement the little things to make the workout more intense, add the jump, arms over head etc. I absolutely loved the abs at the end of this workout. - posted by Narelle on 3/29/2012
Gilad's Step Aerobics
I have been going to a step-aerobic class religiously for many years primarily because the instructor was phenomenal and also because she was as religiously dependable. Recently, the club I went to for the classes closed and the distance to the instructor's home was not feasible. I asked her what step-aerobic DVD would she recommend my purchasing from Amazon. She immediately instructed me to go to Collage Video and check out Gilad's Step Aerobics. She felt it was the most comparable to her class (others would be too involved to follow) and that there would be a sample video for me to check out prior to ordering. She was right. I still miss my instructor and classmates, but Gilad's DVD is a real close substitute. - posted by Jeanette on 3/22/2012
another good workout from Gilad
I love Gilad. I have been working out with him since the early 90s. I have wanted this video for a while now. Finally got it. Of course, Gilad gives a tough workout. There are no difficult moves and yet it is a tough tape. The first few times I did the tape, I had trouble holding good form the last few times through the routine. I have been doing this video a lot recently because it is such a good workout. - posted by Mary Kay Bledsoe on 3/15/2012

This is a great workout! Easy to follow and keep up! - posted by Jen on 2/23/2012
A favorite for many years
This was one of the first step workouts I ever did, but I have continued to find it challenging and fun nonstop step that climbs in intensity until the end. I had it in video tape and wore it out. Very happy to have the DVD. - posted by Carol on 2/16/2012
An oldie, but goodie..
This dvd may be a bit dated, but I can assure you this one is truly a gem. It is a good cardio workout with excellent cueing. I find other step programs are too fast with complicated dancy moves. This one is easy to follow and gets the job done. Kudos to Gilad. - posted by Jules on 2/9/2012
a classic
This is a good basic workout. Beautiful scenery and amazing 80's outfits. Simple steps but they will get the job done! - posted by Louise on 2/9/2012
Surprise Hit - a must add to your work out routine
I hated step aerobics because it was hard on my knees and too fast paced. I bought this because of the rave reviews and I know Gilad is a fantastic instructor. I was pleasantly surprised on how good the workout is. The cueing is excellent and the pace is very good. I burn alot of calories on this one. Today we made it through all of the 3 step workouts and the 6 minute ab section was the perfect amount of time. The cool down at the end is also good. The outfits are hilarious especially the saggy knee stockings. Do not pass this one up. It is still around because it is that good. - posted by Redhead_99 on 2/2/2012

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Chapter menus
X
You can play only the individual workout segments you want by picking them off a chapter menu (one at a time).
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Step aerobics & toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The step aerobics segments involve stepping up and down on a platform. The moves range from simple stepping to more choreographed exercises. These segments require a step bench platform. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
