Certified instructor description: A varied series of Pilates, yoga and gym-style exercises filmed on a sunny Hawaiian beach. More than just "abs," this program tones and strengthens your entire core and lower back. Each exercise is formatted in a well-sequenced progression. You'll begin with the easiest version, then advance to the more challenging variation (always maintaining a balanced result by working opposing muscle groups). Gilad's cuing is clear and easy to follow; he usually describes and then personally demonstrates the correct form. Requires a medicine ball for some exercises (e.g. holding the ball between your knees). But most routines could be done with a dumbbell. ©2011. DVD has: Chapter menus, Wide screen.

Gilad's Lord of the Abs: Core Challenge

One Ab Workout to Rule Them All
This is a great ab routine that not only works the abs, but also targets the back heavily (something many abdominal workouts neglect). And if you're using a heavy medicine ball, your arms will get a decent pump as well. My only complaint is there is not a thorough warm-up. The workout simply begins on the floor. Otherwise, this is a fun, challenging, and balanced workout that is worth incorporating into your program. - posted by Sean on 5/5/2012

medicine ball exercises ROCK
When I first viewed this dvd for abs I was excited and impressed. So many great ways to move the ball. Totally builds up the core muscles and back, two very important muscle groups to work in unison. Fun and unique way to exercise with ball weight. Doesn't get boring when you feel instant results. Super workout for cardio as well. - posted by Barbara on 4/19/2012

Love this video. I have worked out with Gilad for years. This is his best series ever, very challenging. - posted by judith on 4/10/2012
Fresh and Enjoyable
I really loved this workout! Lots of variety and no boredom ... especially loved all the attention given to working the back muscles. This is my favourite core workout to date. - posted by AB44 on 3/1/2012
Really enjoyed this one!
I usually don't feel I can give so much time to core work when I need to do cardio and strength training, but this one is excellent! I really enjoyed it. I felt great doing it and great after. He incorporates some good stretches in between and focuses on the back as well. Time flew by! This is a favorite of Gilad's newest series. - posted by Cheryl on 2/16/2012
LOTA's beginner-friendly option! No planks!
This is the shortest LOTA workout, and I think it is the most beginner-friendly. There are only a couple of crunches, NO PLANKS, NO SIDE PLANKS! Can't ask for much more than that in an ab workout! Gilad says you can use a dumbbell in place of a med ball, but I found using the dumbbell to be pretty awkward for many moves. That said, I didn't need ANY weight for most of the moves anyway! I did them without and still felt like I was working my core. There is less repetition in this than in some of the other LOTA workouts, and it moves along quickly (doesn't do any one thing for too long). Gilad also includes lots of stretching throughout the workout. I like that he focuses a good portion on unweighted back work (lying on one's stomach and moving the arms or lifting the head/shoulders). I don't often see these moves pop on exercise dvds. The cueing isn't the best on the face-down part (why I rated 4 stars). I had to peek up often to see what they were doing (which was uncomfortable). All in all, I like this one and I would --for now-- say that it is my favorite of the LOTA series. Maybe once my core is a little stronger, I'll prefer the more difficult ones. :) - posted by Alison on 2/15/2012
Amazing core workout!
Gilad did it again..I love this one because it's different, mostly done on the floor with a small ball. I really felt my core, abs and back stronger just after one workout. - posted by Melissa on 2/2/2012
Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
