Certified instructor description: A high-energy, all-kickbox workout that's both fun and effective. Gilad includes lots of ab-focused movements, so you'll burn fat
and strengthen your core (e.g. knee lifts to work the lower abs, punch combinations to target the obliques, etc.). The entire program is structured in easy-to-follow add-ons. You'll start with the basic moves, then you'll seamlessly blend in the more challenging progressions. Finally, you'll repeat that entire sequence three more times. It's a technique that lets you learn and practice the exercises without getting confused or frustrated. Filmed on a warm, sunny Hawaiian beach. ©2011. DVD has:

Gilad's Lord of the Abs: Abs on Fire |
    Like it |
| I like the background used and direct instruction. I concentrate on the steps to the point that I don't realize how hard I am exercising and then we are done. He provides good hints and instruction. - posted by Robin on 5/10/2012 |

    It Rocks |
| At last a kickboxing-based exercise program whose pace does not hyperextend your arms or legs. I love it!. Choreography is a little hard to learn but once you catch on you have a solid workout — what helps is that Gilad consistently speaks the moves. I am 64 years old and felt I had really worked my body — burned fat. Well done, Gilad. - posted by Barbara on 4/5/2012 |

    Fun and fast paced |
| The first time I tried this workout, I was all over the place. Gilad's right, just keep working with it and you'll get the hang of it. the second time I did it, it was much better. I pretty much kept up the whole time. If you have carpeting like I do, just be careful during a couple of the quick turns. The scenery is always beautiful and Gilad always makes me smile. Definitely worth purchasing. - posted by Julie on 3/11/2012 |

    Welcome Back, Gilad! |
| I absolutely love this workout. I find the simplicity of the sequences allow me to concentrate fully on proper abdominal contraction during all the core rotation and punching and yet I never find it boring. I have added weighted gloves for increased intensity although this is certainly not necessary. My 28-year-old son did this workout and his abdominals were sore for days! As I have come to expect, Gilad's presentation is superb. - posted by Marilynn on 3/9/2012 |

Standing abs workout that uses kickboxing moves |
| Full disclosure: I received a free review copy of this workout.
OK. A couple of things about my preferences - because they might help you decide if you would like this workout. I am not a big fan of core workouts (but think I should probably do one once in awhile) and absolutely HATE floor work, including ab work. So, when a standing abs DVD came along that was all kickboxing moves, I was interested. Plus, I still have Gilad's Cardio Srike DVD way back when and this DVD has similar moves and a similar vibe as that older workout.
There is a very short warm up and then Gilad goes straight into the workout. I didn't mind this since it started with a bunch of jab crossses that seemed to finish off the warm up. Basically, the rest of the workout is comprised of one combination. Gilad builds it for a long time on the first side and then switches and does it again on the second side. There is a lot of TIFTing (taking it from the top) and then adding on the next set of moves. There are also a few breaks where you side step before moving on.
The first time I did this workout, my brain got tired about 2/3 of the way through the routine with the three double uppercuts. The workout did not flow very well because I would mix up the moves. After that first time, once I felt like I had learned the routine, it flowed much better. This workout is definitely a solid intermediate workout for me with a slow and steady pace and breaks once in awhile. I definitely feel my abs working when I do this workout, especially in my sides. - posted by Laura on 2/25/2012 |

    Too repetitive |
| I loved the outdoor setting and I love Gilad's teaching style and I love kickboxing! But this one was way too repetitive. He keeps doing the same moves with an add on style. Gets so boring! It would have been so easy for him to finish one sequence and try a new one, instead of repeating the same punches over and over and over. Really looking for a solid cardio from Gilad that is more interesting. Too much of a dread factor for this one, will reach for a more varied kickboxing routine. - posted by Cheryl on 2/14/2012 |

Abs *and arms* on fire! |
| I found Abs on Fire pretty similar to Gilad's Cardio Strike (QuickFit) but longer and more challenging to learn (I feel Gilad's repertoire of cardio moves is pretty limited, but it's the engaging interactions with backgrounders that make them unique and enjoyable). I like how Gilad teaches the combos in an add-on pattern (you do a little, then add another move...practice those a few times and add another move, etc.) None of the moves are overly complicated or too twisty; for me, the main difficulty was in remembering what's coming next (because it did get rather lengthy). HOWEVER, I do think that this will improve with use, and I liked it enough I'm thinking of making a little reference chart to keep nearby so I know what's next! This gets 4/5 starts because I *wish* Gilad had taken advantage of chaptering. The entire first side routing is done for about 15 min. before moving on to side 2; it would've been awesome if there was a chapter break at the beginning of side 2 (so those of us with less endurance could do what we can of side 1 and then skip to side 2 to finish the workout). As always, Gilad is a joy to watch and the sunset is absolutely lovely. I loved the long (7.5 minute) stretch at the end. There is no real warm-up at the beginning, so one really has to ease into it (and I think he does a pretty good job at that). - posted by Alison on 2/9/2012 |
