Certified instructor description: Ellen smoothly integrates true muscle-toning into flowing ballet, Pilates, balance and athletic movements. She combines the effectiveness of a traditional aero/tone workout with the grace and elegance of a ballet class (the program is even done barefoot). Each combo works multiple muscles in a naturally flowing progression (e.g. you start with a squat, add a traveling motion, then blend in the arm circles — while always keeping your abs engaged). The moves range from Pilates butterflies and mermaids, to dancer pliés and arabesques, to classic leg lifts and repeaters. Ellen’s cuing is both mindful and easy to follow. ©2007. Ellen Barrett's Fat Burning Fusion

Good one!
This is an excellent DVD and muscles are worked out well without weights. It is the kind of work out that makes you feel good all day. Lots of knee bending is the only downside for some of us older people. It is definitely intermediate. - posted by Debbie on 1/19/2012
Great for 50 Somethings
I love this workout. The stress free moves are easy to follow and easy on the joints. The amazing thing is with that I still work up a good sweat and can feel the muscle conditioning that has been accomplished. I have worked out to videos for 20 years and although I still love a "feisty" work out, my joints and bones cannot handle the high impact. I leave this workout feeling energized and stronger. Great for low energy days and for those of us looking for a gentler way to stay in shape. - posted by Deborah on 1/16/2012
Excellent workout
Great workout, top-notch muscle shaping, posture-building, and some cardio, although not a big calorie-burning IMO (and minimal ab-work). I used it frequently in summer, when too hot for sneakers. Did not get tired of it! Great job Ellen. - posted by Yvonne on 1/8/2012
Pretty dull
I really like Ellen Barrett's Crunch workout but this one is not great. The same (not very challenging) moves repeated over and over again, and sleep-inducing music. - posted by Sharyn on 1/5/2012
Great workout!
Really enjoying this workout, I've done it 4-5 times now. As promised, you feel energized at the end, and definitely get a good workout. Not intense cardio, but enough to get you sweating a little and heart pumping. Toning and stretching are amazing! I'm already noticing a difference in my abs and hips/thighs (yay!) Lots of squat-type work, great for lower body. Love getting to work out barefoot, really like Ellen Barrett and this dvd. Recommend highly! - posted by Mary on 12/29/2011
Feel good workouts
I had been wearing myself out at a gym 6 days a week seeing little results. Took a break & then began Ellen's workouts. I love them! They are easy on the joints, no jarring, pounding, & I now love working out barefoot! I feel better, not beat, after the workouts & I see & feel the results. I now own 5 of her videos! - posted by Pam on 12/26/2011
It took years to find this
I'm in my early 50's and it has been years since I could work out due to surgeries and just not feeling like I wanted to. I bought several tapes but would find something about the tapes I did not like. Some of it due to my age as it seemed as if most of the routines had far to many step changes. I don't like to do one move four times then do another move four times and so on. I like just a bit more repetition. Also music is very important to me. I don't care for hip hop. After ordering Ellen Barrett's tapes I immediately fell in live with doing them and noticed very curvy changes within the first month. I am sold on Ellen's tapes. They are not for whimps but provide a very lean sexy look for someone in their fifties. - posted by carrie on 12/8/2011
Wow, did I misjudge this video!
At first I thought, barefoot? How challenging could it be? It was AMAZING. She has a warm, personal style, with excellent cues. The workout is seamless, and the time flew by. I was sweating and really feeling like I had worked out, but not exhausted. I definitely felt my thigh muscles, and also my core and even my arms. She is quickly becoming my favorite exercise instructor. I highly recommend this video. - posted by Wendy on 11/26/2011
I Love the Quick Results
The exercises work very quickly to help you get a lean body. Add a good diet, and you will love your healthy body. I like the ballet like moves. Using the modifications, most everyone can do all of these. Collage Video lets you hear the music and see some of the moves. It's the best place to buy exercise DVDs and Ellen Barrett is my new favorite exercise choreographer. - posted by Heidi on 11/13/2011
Love This Workout
This workout is just right for me. I needed a low impact workout that would be easy on my joints but still move my whole body and get my heart rate up. I've turned to more rhythmic, dance/pilates type videos to try and find this combo of low-impact and cardio, and this one's a winner. I really like Ellen's manner, and will definitely be checking out her other videos. The music is canned, but fine. After one workout, I know this will be one of my regulars. - posted by Paula on 11/9/2011

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Chapter menus
X
You can play only the individual workout segments you want by picking them off a chapter menu (one at a time).
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Floor aerobics & toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The aerobics segments are fast-paced standing movements like marching, dancing and jumping. These segments require no equipment. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against a resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
