Certified instructor description: It features the actors, moves and music from the 2009 Fame movie. In the first 54 minutes, you’ll learn the choreography. The actors who played Alice, Kevin and Rosie each teach their own dance segment from the film. The moves range from rock to jazz to hip-hop. You’ll start with the basic patterns at a slow, easy-to-follow pace. Then, step-by-step, you’ll learn the more challenging choreography at an increased tempo. The program ends with a 15-minute Dance Finale where you’ll put it all together into a fast-paced, non-stop “workout.” ©2010. DVD has: Chapter menus, Wide screen, Close captions, Region 1.

Fame Dance Workout

Fun!!
I really enjoyed this dvd. The dance routine is fun and creative. Yes, it takes some time to learn, but, in my opinion, the best dance dvds are not the ones you can get right away. In my opinion, dance routines can get very old very quickly if they don't really feel like real dancing and if they constantly run through the combos by building little bits and taking it from the top two dozen times. The fact that you can just do the dance performance after having learned the routines makes this dvd fun and the perfect add-on. I wish more dance dvds would use the learn and then perform mode! I would say that the cardio portion, once you learn the dance routines and can really perform them, is intermediate/advanced, perhaps even advanced. This is particularly nice, since I find a lot of dance dvds are not particularly challenging in terms of cardio. If you have two left feet (so to speak) or lack patience to learn a routine, I wouldn't buy this dvd - you will likely find it to be very frustrating. - posted by alison on 8/26/2011
I'm Not a Professional Dancer
I think most people who order an exercise video under a dance category basically has to enjoy dancing in general and expect to get a good work out from it. Dancing videos are a great way to vary your exercise routine and do something else besides step and toning. But most people don't expect to order a dance video so they can audition for a music video, get a part as a backup dancer in a movie, or be on TV in Dancing With The Stars. This DVD is way too complicated for the average to above-average person that has experience doing dance DVDs for a fun work-out. The first section is do-able, but then you go on to the second section and you want to completely give up because it is just too complicated. If you put your frustration aside and keep chugging to the third section, you'll find the moves go back to being do-able until you do them at tempo and then you're right back to being frustrated. There's no doubt you could get a good work out from this DVD if you can actually do it, but I wouldn't waste my time or money ordering it unless you've actually taken dance classes and have more experience than the average person who just likes to do some dance moves for exercise. The only reason I gave this two stars instead of one is because the instructors in all three sections are likeable and do a good job trying to teach you the moves. - posted by Sandy on 8/27/2010

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
