Certified instructor description: Three non-intimidating weight-loss workouts led by a very supportive instructor. You'll be exercising with contestants from the hit TV show — "real people" who have already lost up to 200 pounds (but are still overweight, and enthusiastically working to slim down a little more). Everything is designed for the novice exerciser. The first workout is an anyone-can-do-it toning series. The second program adds some simple aerobics while the third workout is slightly more challenging. The sequencing within each workout is also beginner-friendly -- you'll start with basic moves and then confidently advance to more challenging variations. Chris Powell includes level options and lots of understanding encouragement ("just work at your own pace"). ©2011. DVD has: Music only option, Wide screen, Close captions, Region 1.

Extreme Makeover Weight Loss Edition Workout

best workout I know
I hate exercise and have never managed to do a routine this demanding before, but I do it regularly and have gained noticeably in strength and endurance. - posted by Kit on 5/10/2012
Love this guy!
I'm trying to get back into exercising and this is a great beginner workout. He is so friendly and encouraging. I've only done the first workout 2x and it is definitely beginner. There really isn't any cardio and my heart rate didn't get up but I could feel that I had worked some of my muscles. I don't want to be so sore that I can't move the next day so this is a great way to ease into it. You can add it on to walking or another form of cardio. The instructor is adorable and has a great personality, he makes me want to work out! - posted by Sara on 2/4/2012
Extreme Makeover The WorkOut
I have very bad knees. This video was not hard on my knees. There was one exercise that was challenging so I continued to do the previous excise while the group completed that exercise. The pace was good for me and I could feel it working. I like that you do a lot in a short period of time. I usually rotate my videos and this fits right in with my schedule. - posted by Lafaye on 1/27/2012
Let's loose those pounds!
I ordered several tapes from Collage to follow my weight loss plan. This particular tape has three different levels and so far I tried only the first one. I am 54 and have 60 pounds to get off. Working with tapes for a month and love it. This routine I use one – two times weekly and planning to go to the next level up next week. It is easy to follow and you can feel it in all right places the next day. - posted by Henrietta on 1/26/2012
Great Workout
I am a beginner with a lot of weight to lose. This workout is challenging and fun. I did levels 1 and 2 so far and I am able to keep up for the most part. I am very sore the day after so I know it's working! - posted by Susan on 1/26/2012
really bad trainer
I thought that this guys show was ok. I caught it a few times. I saw this workout on Dr Oz so I bought it yesterday. I found Chris the trainer to be really bad trainer. The workout seems like very out dated. I didn't burn many calories on my body bugg device. If you have ever worked out to a fitness dvd this wouldn't be the one that I would recommend. There are so many other titles out there that are much better. The firm is great. Zumba is great. Anything by Jillian Michaels is great. I also like Bob Harpers stuff as well. Save your money on this one. - posted by jess on 12/27/2011
Not For Me
I sent this one back. Although parts of it were fun and I liked the "cast & crew", there were too many repetitive up & down moves, pushups, and rounding of the back. Had back pain when I finished the workout. So, not for me! - posted by SAF on 11/9/2011
Great for beginners, new moms, lighter days
So far, I've used the first 2 workouts on this dvd. I did them with my young daughters, and they really enjoyed it! All of the moves were simple and approachable, with modifications shown. The instructor was encouraging, and the backgrounders were motivating (most having lost over 100 pounds). I particularly liked that there was little (if any) talk about appearance or the look of one's body; all talk was focused on health and vitality and the joy of movement. That was refreshing! The movements were well-explained. I consider myself a high-beginner/low-intermediate, and this workout felt like a good spark/extended stretch/joint-mobility warm-up. I used it on a day when I didn't feel like working out, and it totally fit the bill and exceeded my expectations. Many of the moves can be modified UP for a more difficult workout. I gave this 4 stars because the individual workouts are not chaptered and you must sit through a lengthy introduction for each workout. Other than that, I'd definitely recommend it for those getting back into fitness, new moms, beginners, older individuals who do not currently exercise at a higher level. I even recommend it for kids! My 3 and 5 year olds have claimed this one as their own! - posted by Alison on 11/4/2011

for beginners, really like it. - posted by notosha on 10/21/2011
Great doable workout
I really enjoy this workout. I tried the intermediate level first but was a bit beyond what I could do. I did the beginner level today and finally have found a strength training workout that I can do from beginning to end without needing to take a break or sit and watch because I couldn't keep up. The instructor is great, very personable and encouraging without yelling. This is a workout I can do regularly and then progress on to the next levels. Highly recommend!!! - posted by Mary on 9/29/2011

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Music only option
X
This feature allows you to play only the music, without any cuing (after you’ve learned the movements and you just want to do the workout without listening to the instruction).
Wide screen
X
The program fully fills a wide-screen television screen. Note: These videos will display black bars at the top and bottom on a traditional 4 x 3 ratio TV screen.
Region 1
X
This DVD is designed for US and Canadian DVD players. It will NOT play in most foreign country players.
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Floor aerobics & toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The aerobics segments are fast-paced standing movements like marching, dancing and jumping. These segments require no equipment. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against a resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
