Certified instructor description: Classic yoga poses subtly intensified with Pilates and body-sculpting techniques. You get the flexibility benefits of yoga plus the firming benefits of muscle toning. Ellen begins each series with a basic yoga pose like cobra, down dog or warrior. Then she smoothly and naturally blends in the muscle toning (e.g. a warrior evolves into a lunge; a chair pose gets some pulses; a cobra becomes a plank). It’s all fast-paced and fluid with seamless transitions (and lots of relaxing between-move stretches). Ellen’s calm, thorough cuing makes it easy to follow. Quiet instrumental music. ©2008. Ellen Barrett's Yogini Workout

I LOVE THIS
Having never done yoga before, I like that this is an infused workout. I have ALL of Ellen Barrett's workouts, so I am a big fan. This workout was tougher than I thought it would be. I had never done these yoga poses but I really loved them. I especially like all of the low back work because this is an area that sometimes gets neglected. I felt so stretched and elongated when this was over and I got my heart rate up too. Ellen is just the best! - posted by Jill on 5/11/2012
Great yoga infused workout
I really liked this workout. Although I thought it was going to be a bit more Yoga like, which it does incorporate a lot of yoga poses, it is not a yoga routine persay. However don't let that deter you. I found this workout very good and very well done. I like it a lot and will continue to get more of her videos. I like how she has incorporated the yoga poses into her own "flow" making each exercise challenging but not strenuous. - posted by Jena on 3/27/2012
Awesome yogini workout
Who ever would have thought a yoga routine could make your muscles sore!! Great video...don't hesitate!! - posted by Gloria on 3/22/2012
Yogini Workout
This is a fantastic workout. I love it. I feel challenged by the routine. Ellen is smooth with the transitions in the workout and there is always a way to take it down a notch if needed. This workout will definitely get results. - posted by Ellen on 3/9/2012
Definitely a Challenge
This workout is a definite challenge for my body. The difference between this workout and a conventional yoga workout is Ellen Barrett. She is a Godsend for my body and mind. I am in my 40's and hopefully will enter my 50's still in the same good fitness shape. - posted by Angi on 3/1/2012
More like an Advanced workout!
This workout should be advertised as "Advanced" level rather than "Intermediate". I am fit and the right weight (for me), but I find this workout too demanding, fast paced, perhaps too many repetitions of the same movements. It could be improved with an "interval training" format where some of the challenging moves are spaced in between less demanding (stretching, gentle toning). I do like Ellen's focus on smooth movements and transitions, fluidity and grace. So I ignore or adapt the movements to suit my endurance level, often following the example set by one of the "team" who shows less intense options. It is a good workout, but generally an infrequent choice in my daily cross-training routines. - posted by Beverly on 2/11/2012
aerobic
I'm not fully recovered from surgery. I am able to do yoga, but not yet this Yogini routine because it's just a bit too fast for me, I'm not able to to the cobra and I cannot jump. However, once I've fully recovered, this will be a nice little alternative to an aerobic routine. - posted by LeeAnn on 1/26/2012
Most exhausting workout ever
Even though I like Ellen Barrett and have bought quite a few of her videos, consider this a "sour grapes" review--"Sour grapes" because I really couldn't do a lot of the exercises in this program. Maybe that's why everything annoyed me--the same studio setting, the same exercise talent, even some of the same verbiage. Everything was intense and difficult, even the so-called "stretches," which, in an Ellen Barrett video, are just more hard exercises by another name. Maybe you'd like it if you like extremely challenging workouts. Not for me. - posted by Maggie on 1/4/2012
Ok
I think this is good for what it is, a yoga dvd with an emphasis on legs, bottom, and core. Ellen even lists these areas as target zones on the back cover, although doesn't list them in any other online descriptions. That's a disappointment and I was hoping for more total body toning. That being said, I really like Ellen as a trainer and will keep this in my rotation to use on lighter days and in between runs. She does target arms in a few poses, so that gives me something to feel like I'm getting a good overall workout. I also love her Skinny Sculpt dvd, if you're looking for a toning only workout. It's awesome! - posted by Jen on 12/30/2011
Love Love Love it!
I'm not very flexible, so I can't do a lot of other yoga videos. This one is my favorite! It reduces stress and makes me feel incredibly good afterward! I would recommend it to everyone who loves Ellen Barrett! It's tough enough to feel my muscles tightened after, but not tough enough that I want to quit. - posted by Ilona on 12/20/2011

Reading a Time Graph

Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
