Certified instructor description: A fluid blend of stretching and strengthening exercises designed to give you toned muscles, sleek lines and everyday flexibility. You’ll start with gently flowing sequences of dancer-inspired movements. Each series smoothly transitions through multiple muscles and techniques (e.g. Ellen begins with a plié squat, shifts into a warrior lunge and then adds a bicep curl). The moves are almost cardio — fast-paced with a full range of motion. The ending floorwork segment is exceptionally comprehensive and varied. It works your lower body, abs and back in every possible angle, plane and position. Requires 2 to 4 lb. dumbbells. Excellent cuing and detailed instruction on a bright, airy set. ©2010. DVD has: Chapter menus, Wide screen.

Ellen Barrett's Skinny Sculpt

Love All of Ellen's Workouts
I just turned 60 (!) so I am now taking more care to avoid injury, yet exercise is more important than ever for maintaining an active life and keeping off/losing weight. Ellen Barrett's workouts are perfect--a blend of aerobics, strength and stretching. I can work up a sweat without pounding my joints. - posted by Paula on 5/12/2012
Love this but not really programable
I really enjoy her workouts, It does have chapter menu, but that just lets you choose where to start. Then it runs through the rest of the workout. - posted by Kay on 5/4/2012
Great workout!
This is a very thorough workout, challenging but not too hard. I feel lean and strong when I'm done. - posted by Catherine on 5/3/2012
Great Video
I am a long-term, intermediate exerciser, and I love this video. You feel it after your first workout. It's amazing how light weights (I use 2 lbs.) can really give you such a great workout! I also love the ab routine and have been doing it several evenings and week, and I really feel like it's helping me to get rid of my "menopausal" middle! - posted by Paula, 48 on 4/30/2012
Another Great Ellen video
I purchased Slim Sculpt before Skinny Sculpt. I think they are both great. When I made the Slim Sculpt purchase I asked Collage which one was the more advanced of the two? I was told Slim Sculpt was the tougher. I disagree I feel Skinny Sculpt is slightly more intense. I enjoy both but Skinny Sculpt is the 5 star one. Ellen's videos are a regular in my schedule sometimes I do 2 of her videos in a day. I run at least 30 miles a week and her videos are such a great addition. They always make me feel good! I guess that is why I have...almost all of them. I hope Ellen keeps them coming!! I will keep buying them. - posted by TED on 3/31/2012
Great workout
I haven't worked out in awhile due to foot surgery. This is a great dvd. I liked it because there is NO jumping, and you can do it in your bare feet. There is plenty of stretching incorporated with strengthening which was great for stretching out my foot and leg muscles. I used 2 lb weights, and actually felt really challenged. She works on your whole body, keeps your heart rate up for about 1/2 and hour, (last 15-20 min. are more lower body and core)and is very pleasant and easy to follow. GREAT! - posted by Theresa on 3/4/2012
Just what I was looking for
I got bored with weight-lifting about 10 years ago and switched to yoga, but now I’m getting to the age where I need to focus on weight-bearing exercise again. This video is just what I was looking for. The instructor is pleasant and calm, and so is the music -- I can’t stand thumping “workout video” music. I like that you can do it barefoot, which is what I'm used to with yoga. I used 3-lb. weights and had to set them down a few times. I thought my arms would be killing me the next day, but I was surprised to discover my thigh muscles were sore instead! It does seem as though your arms are getting the most attention, but you also get a good lower-body workout, almost without noticing. - posted by Luna on 3/3/2012
Great workout
I really have been happy with all of Ellen's workouts. With two small children I find that I can pause her workouts, attend to my children when necessary, and go back and finish the workout without feeling too frustrated. That sounds like a silly detail but it wasn't something I felt I could do with more aggressive step aerobic tapes (even though I really enjoyed doing those). I really like Ellen's personality. I enjoy doing the moves, find the movements fluid, and I like the music (another important detail that might seem silly for some but for me makes such a huge difference towards my attitude towards the workout). Thanks for being a terrific instructor and keep up the good work! - posted by Julie on 3/1/2012

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
