Certified instructor description: Ellen smoothly integrates true muscle-toning into flowing ballet, Pilates, balance and athletic movements. She combines the effectiveness of a traditional aero/tone workout with the grace and elegance of a ballet class (the program is even done barefoot). Each combo works multiple muscles in a naturally flowing progression (e.g. you start with a squat, add a traveling motion, then blend in the arm circles — while always keeping your abs engaged). The moves range from Pilates butterflies and mermaids, to dancer pliés and arabesques, to classic leg lifts and repeaters. Ellen’s cuing is both mindful and easy to follow. ©2007. Ellen Barrett's Fat Burning Fusion

Wonderful Workout!!
I absolutely LOVE Ellen's fusion workouts!! I've done yoga for 20 years and needed to do more cardio, and found these DVD's excellent!! I've even lost a few pounds since I started using them!! - posted by Teresa on 5/17/2012
Love this workout
I have been doing Ellen Barrett video workouts for a couple of years now and this is my absolute favorite. I just bought it as a gift for my sister. It makes you feel so stretched out and yet really makes you work in a fun way. You'll work up a great sweat. - posted by Marcye on 5/10/2012
Awesome Workout
I consider myself to be a high level intermediate/low level advanced exerciser. While this workout may look easy, trust me it's not. My arms were burning doing the routine and the next day my legs were sore. Using your own body weight is a wonderful alternative to some the other exercise programs out on the market. After I finished the workout, I felt lengthened and peaceful and had a good night's sleep. - posted by Nina on 4/26/2012
Another great Ellen Barrett workout
Ellen maintains her excellent quality in this workout. Like one of the other reviewers said, this isn't a sweat filled workout, but it is extremely effective for toning and it requires balance and discipline. It is also fun. Ellen is one of the best instructors. - posted by Tipi on 4/21/2012
Good Workout!
Ellen Barrett is one of my favorite instructors, and I've done all of her Crunch and Self workouts. I was excited to try her Fat Burning Fusion because it was done barefoot and seemed to be highly recommended by other reviewers. I'm 25 and am at a high intermediate level of fitness who leans more towards the routines that really push you, so when I first started this, I thought, "Oh, no. This is going to be too easy." It definitely isn't a "sweat buckets" workout, but it helps you to really pay attention to your form and to each muscle that you're using. There's lots of standing ab work that and some pretty good lower body exercises that if you put the effort into, you will feel the next day. This definitely brought something to my workout rotation that I have been missing as it made me feel longer, leaner and more relaxed. I do this one the day after I do a long, heavy workout. Very well cued, ok music, and a really good workout. Definitely a keeper and I look forward to more of her fusion dvds. - posted by Becca on 4/5/2012
Unique barefoot workout
I enjoy this workout because it is done barefoot and allows for a lot of flowing movements. I especially like the ballet moves. In this video, you are working all of the muscle groups and elevating your heartbeat while not putting too much pressure on knee and hip joints. As a middle-aged woman, this is important for me. I also feel like there isn't a lot of other pressure, the music and instruction are always low-key and allows me to work at a steady pace and not feel like I'm trying to catch up with the instructor. This is my second video by Ellen Barrett and I will most likely purchase another. - posted by Kathryn on 3/29/2012
love it!
This was my first Ellen Barrett video and I was pleasantly surprised at how fun and challenging this workout is. Since I have limited time to exercise (I'm the mom of 7) I am always looking for ways to get as much out of each workout as I can! I love the fluid movements and the fact that my whole body gets something out of it! I didn't feel like I was working as hard as I was (that was obvious from the tons of sweat) and the workout went by incredibly fast - some workouts I find myself counting down the time til it's over- not this one. I had to take a break from working out due to surgery last year, and am working on getting back into shape after putting on weight due to a few months of inactivity. I would highly recommend Ellen's fusion style to anyone who needs a gentle feeling workout that really works you out. I've been doing this a few times a week for the past 3 weeks and already notice a difference in the way I carry myself- my posture is so much better and I feel stronger. My jeans are fitting better too!! I will be purchasing many more of Ellen's workouts in the future. She's one of my faves now! - posted by Joanie on 3/22/2012
Absolutely wonderful!
I have alternated Fat Burning Fusion and Skinny Sculpt for two weeks, weekends I power walk. I have seen great results, the workouts are intense without the pounding. I actually see a difference in my abs and waistline, my clothes fit better too! I just ordered two more Ellen tapes. Keep them coming Ellen! - posted by CJ on 3/16/2012
Great workout with little stress on the joints
I'm a 50 year old with an arthritic knee following knee surgery to repair a torn meniscus. My ability to exercise as I always have is much more limited now. My previous favorites were any of The FIRM DVDs, Gin Miller's step aerobics, and any other video that combined fat burning aerobics with strength training. Since my knee surgery and diagnosis, I have been looking for workouts that are easy on the joints but still give me great results. I was surprised how intense this workout was. Using only my own body weight for strength training, my muscles are quite fatigued at the end of the workout and the balancing and repetitive movements using large muscle groups gets my heart rate up and has me sweating in no time. Only a few of the moves aggravate my knee but not in an impact kind of way. I think the DVD will actually benefit my joints as I build my strength and improve my balance. Ellen's instructions are excellent and her gentle reminders to maintain form very helpful. This workout has been a pleasant surprise! - posted by Jody on 2/23/2012
Great for bare feet
This is a great aerobic workout for bare feet. I had some minor foot surgery. I can't wear gym shoes, but I can move. This workout meets my need perfectly, and it's fun! - posted by Sue on 2/22/2012

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Chapter menus
X
You can play only the individual workout segments you want by picking them off a chapter menu (one at a time).
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Floor aerobics & toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The aerobics segments are fast-paced standing movements like marching, dancing and jumping. These segments require no equipment. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against a resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
