Certified instructor description: A flowing workout that burns calories and tones your muscles by intermixing dance, yoga and Pilates. It's an exceptionally fluid and graceful combination — the transitions are seamless and the "fusions" are natural (e.g. a warrior pose that gently evolves into a plié). All the moves have a lower-body focus. They're moderately paced, but surprisingly challenging (Ellen often includes a balance or rotation element to increase the intensity ... and results). The ending floorwork is unique; it blends traditional toning moves with muscle-lengthening stretches. Also unique: the program was shot "live," so it really seems like you're in the room with Ellen and her crew. ©2011.

Ellen Barrett's Live Power Fusion

Love it
I have 7 Ellen Barrett exercise video's; I love all ... results are as promised. Long slender toned and flexible muscles. I am a 61 year old female and feel great due to working out regularly with Ellen Barrett. I give all Ellen Barrett's videos 5 stars. - posted by Melody on 5/6/2012
Another solid Ellen workout
I have almost all of Ellen Barrett's DVD's, including her early Crunch ones and this is a solid addition to the collection. Some of the moves will look a little familiar but she combines or tweaks them in new ways (e.g., a releve combined with a twist.) In other words, if you already own some of her Studio workouts and are wondering if this one brings something new to the table, it does. As with other Ellen workouts, it's tougher than it appears. The extended squat/releve section made me a little breathless. I enjoyed it and was a little sore in the hamstrings and rear the next day. One exerciser demonstrates lower intensity versions of the moves. There are no high impact moves. This is really a better, revised version of her Yogini workout. - posted by Vanessa on 4/19/2012
Easy on the joints
Found Ellen to be a great instructor, I could keep up with the class on my very first try. Great find...Thanks, Collage Video for carrying this product! - posted by Angela on 4/19/2012
Love this workout!
Although I used to exercise for a living, it has been several years since I have worked out regularly. I am now at about the five month mark with starting back and I really like this dvd for my current level of fitness (not a beginner, but far from advanced). Every time I do this workout it is challenging and I break a good sweat, but it doesn't leave me wiped out for days like some of my other dvd's do. I really like Ellen Barrett as an instructor and also like the live class format. It seems much less staged than most of the other dvds I own. It's one of those workouts that you actually look forward to doing! I am alternating this with walking on a treadmill and am losing weight with the combo. There is a lot of reaching and bending which is a nice offset to the treadmill, but not too much squatting and lunging which I can no longer do. This is currently my favorite workout dvd of the 20 or so that I own. - posted by Tawna on 4/17/2012
AWESOME!
I love, love, love this workout! The Begin/Inter level is very deceiving because it was a lot harder than I thought it would be. Definitely got my heart rate up too. I don't think it is so repetitive just to be repetitive. She is doing two sets of things on both sides of the body for balance. I like that. I like the figure eight "break" in between them. I did not try the "threading" as I thought I would pull a muscle, didn't want to chance it, so I followed the modifier. Something to work up to. I feel like I worked every part of my body. Great job, Ellen! - posted by JG on 4/13/2012
Love it!
I am a former runner and believed that exercise had to be hardcore to be effective. After a stress fracture I had to find an alternative workout and luckily found Ellen Barrett's videos, I now own seven of them and rotate them daily. I now know that I can get a great workout without pushing myself so hard and ultimately ending up injured. I look forward to my workout with Ellen every day, it really feels good and provides everything I need, cardio, stretch and strength. - posted by Debbie on 4/12/2012
Fantastic workout!
I really like this workout. I enjoy all of Ellen Barrett's videos which are lacking the "dread" factor of many of the other vidoes out there. I simply have fun doing hers! I like the style of this video, how the girls are close up and personal. I like that the video is, apparently, "live"-although I have to admit I never thought much about that aspect of exercise videos (you had me duped). I love the colors, the fluidity of the moves, the music (which is extremely important to me). - posted by Julie on 3/29/2012
Agree w/Lisa
Previous review expressed my sentiments perfectly. The music is boring and non motivating, and the moves are too bloody repetitive. I can only do it occasionally. - posted by Joyce on 3/27/2012
Another great Ellen Barrett workout
Ellen Barrett is one of my favorite workout stars and this DVD is a great example of that. The moves are graceful yet very effective without the jumping around. She has a wonderful voice and is definitely one of the best instructors. I also like the fact that the workout is compact. No wasted time. - posted by Tipi on 3/23/2012
Ellen Barrett is an exercise genius!!
I love the barefoot cardio series. I am in my late 50s and have been exercising with tapes and now DVDs since the early 80s. The moves are smooth and elegant. No bone jarring jumping and thumping!!!! Don't let that give anyone the impression that these workouts are easy. They get my heart rate up and I am sweating after 15 minutes of 45. Her cuing is excellent and not too perky!!!! The other women are lovely and DIVERSE. My 21 year old daughter loves these recordings too, so the barefoot series is not just for the baby boomer crowd!!!! - posted by Angela on 2/24/2012

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
sample time graph
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Floor aerobics & toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The aerobics segments are fast-paced standing movements like marching, dancing and jumping. These segments require no equipment. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against a resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
