Certified instructor description: Two distinct programs — both focus on enriching your physical, mental and emotional health during this special time. The prenatal workout features “opening” postures designed to relieve stress, strengthen your back and create space for your baby (e.g. a “pigeon” pose that opens your hips). The postnatal program is a little more challenging. It includes movements selected to reintegrate the pelvic floor muscles and rebalance your nervous system. Both workouts emphasize relaxation, breathing and connecting with your baby (e.g. “one hand on your heart, one hand on your abdomen”). Peaceful garden setting and quiet music. ©2009. DVD has: Region 1.

Element: Prenatal & Postnatal Yoga

prenatal yoga
I like this video. I haven't been doing yoga very long and think it is fine! It works for me :) - posted by jd on 3/23/2012
I liked it
I am currently five months along and am just beginning to transition into prenatal workouts versus working out as normal (can no longer keep up so well!). Finding anything that isn't an absolute snooze fest has been a real struggle. I have tried and rejected many dvds so far and my biggest complaint is they are largely TOO EASY. I tend to like a more athletic style yoga when I am not pregnant and this has a small element of strengthening (warrior, chair) but I got the most benefit from the stretchy aspect of it. I have had a lot of leg cramping and my calves can remain sore for days. This stretched me out nicely; in fact I could have used a few more down dogs. Overall a good purchase, not a waste of time or money. - posted by Melissa on 7/8/2010
Really liked it, but probably not for everyone
I did ashtanga (power) yoga before getting pregnant and found most prenatal yoga dvds put me to sleep. This one was more challenging, but I wouldn't recommend it for someone new to yoga. The production quality is great, with a peaceful setting and soothing music. I wouldn't have minded a little less instruction from the voice-over (sometimes it got distracting), but it wasn't that bad. I haven't tried the postnatal workout yet, but appreciate that both are included on one DVD and look forward to doing it after the baby's born. - posted by Vivienne on 10/15/2009
Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
