Discover Bellydance: Basic Dance

Needs better instructions
This is my first bellydance video. While some of the instructions are ok, for first-timers it needs better review of the different steps and more heads up as to what's next. These ladies know how to dance, but need some professional help on exercise video developing - posted by Kathy on 10/13/2011
Discover Bellydance Eureka!
I was getting ready to give up on finding an introductory exercise DVD that is easy to follow, until I saw Veena and Neena's Discover Bellydance: Basic Dance. It is so easy to follow, because the sisters slowly demonstrate and slowly explain. There is no rushing here! I love it. I wish yoga on DVD was explained this well without rushing to the next level. - posted by Laura Anne on 12/21/2007

Read before you buy
This is instructional, it's not a workout, the title is "Discover Bellydance". If you want a workout, look at "Bellydance for Fitness". - posted by Leigh on 5/30/2006
Good Instructional Video-- Not a workout Video
This wouldnt be a "workout." I didn't get tired at all-- My muscles didn't really feel worked out at all-- I workout everyday for an hour. I think I was able to watch the first few segments where they dance and catch on--- fast forward to areas I wanted more instruction on--- and whala. :-) But if you aren't looking for a class and you want to learn, this is good. NO GO if you're looking for exercise - posted by on 11/1/2005
great for beginners
these tapes are great for getting back into working out. You break a nice sweat once you do the actual dance. It is also good for the coordination challenged because it is so detailed. Once you get it down it is fun and helps your posture - posted by on 3/25/2005
a fun class
Some people may be surprised to see I LIKE this video, since I haven't yet given a rousing endorsement to their other videos. I think these twins have a lot of potential, and the workout they do is fun, but it does get old fast with the repetition. However, this program is structured differently. It is more like a class to learn a performance piece (in fact, that is what you do) so I would expect it to be less interactive and more repetitive. So the voice over didn't bother me as much, and since all the pieces are put into combos, I didn't feel that was as repetitive, and I liked being able to go over it several times to really practice "my" dance. The tempo is a little slow for this to be an aerobic workout for many people. Some beginners may, however, find that it gives them a great workout. I like doing it on rest days, when I'm feeling blah, when I want to have fun... whenever. I like ME dancing, I like the little dance they put together, and I like the twins. They are beautiful and personable. I just wish their workouts were a little different. Overall, this is a fun video. If you like their other videos, you will probably love this. Don't expect it to be quite as much of a workout as their others- this is a dance class first and a work out second. PS- the new set is lovely, and very romantic. - posted by linda on 5/14/2001
Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
