Certified instructor description: Two easy-to-follow workouts — a low-impact fat burner and a no-equipment-required toning program. Denise's "you can do it" attitude is both motivating and supportive. The cardio program begins with super-simple choreography (slightly intensified with lots of wide-ranging movements). After you've mastered the moves, Denise adds a few energizing variations (e.g. a playful mambo or a sexy hip roll). The toning starts with a soothing set of total-body stretches. That's followed by a flowing sequence of proven, body-sculpting classics (moves like planks, lunges and push-ups that use your own body weight for resistance). As always, Denise is a passionate and enthusiastic instructor. ©2011. DVD has: Music only option, Wide screen, Close captions, Region 1.

Denise Austin's Shape Up & Shed

Fun! Fun! Fun!
Just love this fun, no dread workout by Denise. I have so many of her workouts and they are always uplifting, as is her personality. One of the many things I love about this workout is that it includes, cardio, toning, a little yoga stretching, so when you finish you feel like you worked every muscle. Just great Denise, make some more like this!! - posted by Sandy on 5/18/2012
VERY BEGINNER!
If I had read the label more closely I would have seen where it said "Great for Beginners", but I didn't. So, it wasn't exactly what I expected from Denise. But it really is great for a beginner (which I am not). I will use it on the days that I really need a break, but also need to exercise. - posted by Marla on 4/20/2012
Good but Not the Greatest
The workout is good and it is a "fun" exercise DVD but I did not think it was the greatest. I like Denise's 3-Week Bootcamp much better as it was more effective for me. - posted by Rosie on 4/15/2012
Good... but not great...
This dvd delivered what I thought it would... a moderate workout when I'm pressed for time. Denise Austin is not always great with cueing in my opinion but it was easy to keep up. - posted by Tracey on 4/12/2012

thought it was too easy for beginners could have been more harder - posted by vicki meyers on 3/23/2012
I love tihis workout
The cuing in this workout is fine, I'm not sure what the complaints are on this are about. The choreography is easy to follow and its really fun. This is for a nice easy workout day - I usually do intermediate to advanced workouts, but I can't do those everyday! This fits the bill! Denise is so incredibly enjoyable - absolutely no dread factor ever with her! I especially loved the second section - fantastic stretching and yoga mixed in with the lunges and ab work. I feel so good after doing this one. I love her emphasis on stretching and working the spine at all angles. Don't get that from almost any other instructor - Denise never shortens the stretching within all of her exercises - she excels at this. Thanks Denise for making me feel great today! - posted by Susan on 3/22/2012
Works my entire Body!
Love this workout! Is it the toughest one on my weekly routine? No. But, on those days I want to work my entire body - this is the one I will Chose. I don't know what I'd do without Denise Austin's workouts. She keeps me in shape with all the right moves! - posted by Melissa on 3/22/2012

Denise Austin Shape up & Shed Pounds
This is an good workout. Not my most favorite. - posted by Cassandra on 3/11/2012
A fun, effective workout
If you are looking for an over-the-top boot camp sweat-fest, this is not the video for you. However, if you are an intermediate level exerciser looking for a low-impact workout that will make you break a light sweat, have fun, and feel good, then this is the workout for you! Yes, the cuing is not the best but after a couple of times through, you'll have it down. JUST PLAIN FUN! - posted by Jennifer on 3/8/2012

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Music only option
X
This feature allows you to play only the music, without any cuing (after you’ve learned the movements and you just want to do the workout without listening to the instruction).
Wide screen
X
The program fully fills a wide-screen television screen. Note: These videos will display black bars at the top and bottom on a traditional 4 x 3 ratio TV screen.
Region 1
X
This DVD is designed for US and Canadian DVD players. It will NOT play in most foreign country players.
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Floor aerobics & toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The aerobics segments are fast-paced standing movements like marching, dancing and jumping. These segments require no equipment. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against a resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
