Certified instructor description: Four easy-to-schedule segments, each with a different workout style. Denise's bubbly personality keeps you energized while her movement variety keeps you motivated. You'll start with martial arts aerobics — a fast-moving series of kicks, jacks, shuffles and jumps. Then it's athletic cardio — wide-ranging moves based on sports and gym-style training. That's followed by a kettlebell-inspired segment — time-efficient exercises that sculpt your upper and lower body at the same time (using one dumbbell, not a kettlebell). Finally, you'll finish with "integrated strength" — a fast-paced toning sequence that keeps your body moving through a huge range of positions and angles. DVD can be programmed to play any segment in any order. Requires 2 to 5 lb. dumbbells. ©2011. DVD has: Programmable chapters, Music only option, Wide screen, Close captions, Region 1.

Denise Austin's Sculpt & Burn Body Blitz

Poor cueing, Not a beginner's tape
This is the first Denise Austin workout I purchased and the workout was good but her cueing isn't very good. She just goes into the next sequence before giving a cue what she is doing. I have been exercising for quite a while and would not consider this a beginner's level workout! It is at the minimum intermediate, especially if you do the entire workout at one time! - posted by Kathy on 4/19/2012
Challenging and interesting
This is a really good workout! I agree with others that it is at least intermediate - it is deceptively easy (is that the right expression? It seems easy but you don't realize how hard you're working.) There are LOTS of new moves - moves I haven't seen anywhere else and I've been doing exercise videos for over 30 years. I love that each section is so short, somehow doing 4 10-minute workouts seems easier than doing 1 40-minute workout. Highly recommend. - posted by Diane on 4/4/2012
awesome workout dvd
i love the kick butt workout from DENISE. it's a real workout.. i got my husband doing it with me after work each night during the week and we are hooked..... we love it. - posted by carly on 3/18/2012
Didn't care for this DVD
I have a few Denise Austin videos from over the years, and some are better than others. The ones I keep are the ones where she has fairly decent cueing, and a good solid workout. I returned this DVD because I really did not like it. The cueing was awful from moment one, and I just did not find it to be a high quality workout. - posted by Alexa on 3/15/2012
Great workout - not for beginners!
I am an intermediate/advanced exerciser and I really enjoyed this workout! It has some fun moves and she keeps you going. At first, it seemed too easy, but once I knew the moves I worked up a good sweat! Denise makes you feel so good when you work out with her! I love her encouragement and her pizzaz! I can't wait to do this workout again. It's fun and you feel great doing it. Thanks, Denise, for the variety in this one and some of the unique athletic moves. Awesome! - posted by Susan on 3/1/2012
great fat burner workout

Sculpt & Burn Body Blitz
I love love love this workout. Only problem is I think the disc is bad. It starts then it would go to chapter 2. I have to keep starting it over then after about 5 times it will go forward to 2. - posted by Elviria on 2/17/2012
Too high impact
Why doesn't Denise show a variety of exercise ages. Isn't she over 50 herself? Obviously she does not want to show modifications or appeal to those her own age. Too bad she has not come out with an ADVANCED LOW IMPACT workout. - posted by Charlae on 2/5/2012
Not Boring - Hits All Parts
My first thought is that this one definitely keeps you moving from one move to another & doesn't allow you to get bored with a single move. I don't particularly care for the length of "down time" between each mini circuit and find myself running in place or doing jumping jacks to keep my heartrate up while I wait for the next circuit. - posted by Trish on 1/26/2012
Too high impact for those with knee troubles
I tried this whole DVD and thought it would be great for me if only I didn't have problems with my knees. The Kettle Bell and Cardio with weights were really fun but I paid for it the next several days with knee pain. - posted by Jennifer on 1/20/2012

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.
sample time graph
Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Programmable chapters
X
At the beginning of your workout, you can select the exact segments you want to play that day. The DVD will then play all those segments in the order you chose.
Music only option
X
This feature allows you to play only the music, without any cuing (after you’ve learned the movements and you just want to do the workout without listening to the instruction).
Wide screen
X
The program fully fills a wide-screen television screen. Note: These videos will display black bars at the top and bottom on a traditional 4 x 3 ratio TV screen.
Region 1
X
This DVD is designed for US and Canadian DVD players. It will NOT play in most foreign country players.
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Floor aerobics & toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The aerobics segments are fast-paced standing movements like marching, dancing and jumping. These segments require no equipment. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against a resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
