Certified instructor description: Focusing on more than the usual core abdominal muscles, this workout also shapes your arms and legs (utilizing a Dyna-Band to produce exercises derived from Joseph Pilates’ original “reformer” machine). Teaching one-on-one, Denise starts with a gentle-but-invigorating tai chi-style warm-up. Then it’s 17 min. of mostly ab-targeted Pilates matwork. That’s followed by the upper and lower-body toning — innovative standing exercises that also use the band to increase resistance and effectiveness. Finally, you’ll finish with another flowing tai chi stretch. Throughout, you get Denise’s motivation and enthusiasm (“you’re looking beautiful!”). Requires a 6-foot Dyna-Band. ©2002. DVD has: Chapter menus, Close captions, Region 1.

Denise Austin's Pilates for Every Body

Not for me
Denise's cuing is way off or non-existant in places. Plus she's way too perky for me. The workout is decent I guess. For me, I couldn't get past the cuing issues and the perkiness, so I returned this one. - posted by Sheri on 2/27/2012
Great video
I think the video is great, I usually do alot of cardio workouts especially outdoor activities like snowshoeing, bicycling and running and I felt this video gave me a good workout I really felt my core muscles working. I recommend this video to everyone. - posted by carla on 1/19/2012
Nice Start
I have enjoyed Denise Austin's workouts for years. They have always worked. I wanted a good beginner's Pilates DVD that would have some staying power and this was a great choice. While some do not care for Denise's style (yes she is a little over zealous Woo!), I enjoyed the workout and happily recommend it. - posted by Lori on 9/22/2011
Awful
I thought this was a terrible exercise DVD. Denise gave virtually no instruction. I know how to do Pilates, but this was just annoying and hard to follow. I returned it. - posted by Karen on 9/15/2011
Booooooring
This was slow, not challenging and too basic for me. The music was terrible and I felt like sleeping. Felt like I was watching golden girl re-runs. This is probably good for someone just starting out or older crowd. - posted by Maria on 8/28/2011
Fun for everybody
Usually "cute and perky" exercise instructors drive me crazy; sometimes it's just their voice quality. Although Denise fits this category, I've always enjoyed her workouts. Maybe because I've been with her ever since she was a young trainer on a morning TV talk show. To my knowledge she is one of the first fully certified exercise physiologists in media. I still own a few of her early VHS tapes. Some of them are pretty bad, but her 40-minute stretch routine (along with Karen Voight's) remains my favorite for a full-body relaxing stretch. (Unfortunately, I think it is no longer available.) As she has aged (still in great shape) she has modified some routines so that they are effective but not hard on the joints, and this is one of them. When I finish this routine I feel as though I have worked most of my muscles, but I don't feel beaten up and exhausted. I could do without the last segment with the "dance" movements, I'd prefer more post-exercise stretching; this is why I gave a four-star rating and not a five. (P.S. It's probably not for "no pain-no gain" advanced exercisers) - posted by Katie on 6/23/2011
great DVD
Love this dvd - I'm 53 and in reasonable shape....it's challenging enough without being too hard,....easy to follow, and as always, I enjoy Denise Austin's positive attitude & excellent form to imitate. I enjoy using the resistance band as a nice change too. - posted by Melanie on 6/12/2011
First time doing pilates and love this!
I usually do higher impact workous that include, HIIT, step, kickboxing and weight training. I thought it would be a good idea to incorporate Pilates in once a week to lengthen as well as provide toning and flexibility in a different way. I chose Denise Austin to begin with as she is usually gentle and great for beginners in any type of exercise. I think this was a perfect pilates workout for me to begin with. Denise is very likeable and her cueing is great. I like that she does floor work, the work with the chair as well as the band. I felt really flexible after this workout and feel like I lengthened my body and got some toning in as well. It is a great break from all of the higher impact that I do. Great job! - posted by Jill Sherry on 6/7/2011
Just okay.
This workout routine is okay. The exercise itself I like, but I am honestly very distracted by Denise Austin's mannerisms (constant smile plastered on, eyes wide open like deer in headlights). If you think you would be sensitive to an instructors level of "cheesiness", then this video might not be what you're looking for. - posted by Vanessa on 5/26/2011
Love this video!
I have been an avid exerciser for years. I love an intense workout! However, I was recently diagnosed with a genetic heart defect and have had to change the tune of my workouts. This workout is intense enough to break a sweat without raising an extreme heart rate. - posted by Rachel on 3/10/2011

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
