Certified instructor description: Beautifully filmed amid the red rocks of Sedona, Arizona, it’s a mix of walking-style aerobics and dumbbell toning. It’s an effective fat-burner because your heart rate stays elevated as you firm your muscles. The first cardio segment features simple marches at varying speeds with lots of upper-body motions (e.g. cross-country arms). The second boosts the intensity and variety by adding easy-to-follow kickboxing and calisthenic exercises. All the toning segments are standing — a balanced mix of isolated and multiple-muscle routines. Like a skilled coach, Debbie’s cuing is always friendly and supportive. For busier days, the DVD has a 30-minute workout version. Requires 2 to 5 lb. dumbbells. Also includes an audio CD for a Debbie-cued 50-minute outdoor walk. ©2006. DVD has: 1 premix (30-min. alternate workout).

Debbie Rocker's Walk, Sculpt & Tone

Not a good one for me
I usually refrain from writing negative reviews, because I know everyone has to find what works for them, but I have to say, this is not one I would recommend. I am 39, and intermediate to advanced with walking/toning style workouts. As others have stated, the cuing is pretty bad. I didn't have much trouble at first with Debbie introducing a move too long before she goes into it, but the lack of rhythm really threw me off. Added to that was the music that never increased in pace to me, and moves that were entirely too simple. It just never got my heart rate up or challenged me at all. Leslie Sansone may be repetitive, but when she says intensity is going to increase, it increases! Debbie also is very talkative, but not motivating at all. I can't even recommend this to beginners. The poor cuing and instruction are distracting, which counteract her goal in keeping the moves simple so we can focus. Very disappointing. - posted by Sharon on 11/3/2011
Not perfect but effective
I like to do walking videos on slower days and this one kicks it up a notch from Leslie Sansone. I don't mind the instructor at all, in fact, I like her seriousness. The cuing is little off at times, but it's only walking so not near as frustrating as videos that have tricky footwork with poor cuing or show faces when you desperately need to see where to put your feet. - posted by JC on 9/30/2011
OMG
Firstly, if anyone thinks that a simple walking tape is a walk in the park this tape will wake you up....easy it is not...by the 60th minute I was praying for the end to come. It's challenging and by the time you're done, you know you've had a good work out. That's the positive....now for the negative....this woman is the most annoying instructor I've experienced. I've been doing these exercise tapes for years and she takes the cake. Her voice is soooo annoying and if she said one more time "you know what to do" I was going to scream....her cuing stinks...four moves before you're expected to change she announces that you should change.....very confusing. I wish I could just turn off the sound and follow her moves, but I fear that would be even more confusing. I will probably do this every now and then, but in the regular rotation it won't be.... - posted by Joanna on 9/22/2011
Better workout cleaning my house.
I'm sorry, but I found this workout to be frustrating and boring. The exercisers were out of sync with the music - very annoying. There was way too much marching in place. I found myself looking at the clock often. I also tended to look at one of the background exercisers during the boxing section because she had better form than the instructor. There were some bicep curls where no weights were used - really? No weights at all? I can get more of a workout emptying my dishwasher! If I can get more of a workout cleaning my house than doing a video, then it is not worth it in my opinion. This workout should be rated Beg/Int because I just didn't feel any effects until about 50 minutes into the routine. Better if you use light handweights during the walking sections. After I was done, I felt tired - like I went to the mall for 4 hours - rather than refreshed and pleasantly worked out. - posted by Patty on 9/14/2011
Walk, Sculpt and Tone
Love this work out. I sprained my ankle and was looking for something to get back in the swing of things. this was great. I like that you can do the whole dvd or just part. awesome:) - posted by Rebecca on 8/30/2011
Good, solid walk and tone workout
This is a good walking and toning DVD. The desert scenery is beautiful and will be inspiring during my cold New England winters. This was my first Debbie Rocker DVD I found her to be a motivating and good all-around instructor. You can choose a 30 or 60 minute routine depending on your schedule. I love the 30 minute option. I gave 4 stars instead of 5 because I wish the 60 minute option had more variety. - posted by Ruby on 8/26/2011
POWERWALK!!!
this review is for the audio CD that comes with the set. It is a fantastic power walk motivator, if you can get past Debbie's voice telling you "you ARE a good person, and people like you" well, not really that, but it's just as bad, talking about "your bottom" eewwww. I take this to the track with my walking poles, and have at it. Like I said, get past her voice, and just follow the beat to a butt burning, leg strengthening walk outside. love it - posted by MAD CITY IZZY on 8/25/2011
Enjoyable workout
As one just beginning to exercise to lose a few pounds, I enjoyed this video. The sculpting and toning definitely made me break a sweat and I liked Debbie Rocker's cueing. The scenery couldn't have been more beautiful--I look forward to doing this workout again! - posted by Lilly on 8/19/2011
very challenging
I just tried this one for the first time. I do Leslie Sansone a lot, especially if my knees are bothering me from heavy workouts. I have to say this one was pleasantly challenging. I really liked the pace and the length of the workout. I will keep this one in my rotation. I am always looking for a good walking tape as I am getting bored with walk away the pounds and Leslie Sansone. Note, this is not a beginner workout. I workout daily and this was challenging. - posted by kelly on 6/13/2011
Rocker's walk, sculpt and tone
I like that this combines walking with toning. It is more of a workout than a Leslie Sansone walk workout. My only criticism is that Debbie does a lot of talking. It okay the first time you hear it, but if you want to do this workout often, it is a lot of chatter. - posted by Mary on 12/17/2010

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Premixes
X
These are alternate workouts created by the manufacturer. They use the same content as the main program (i.e. the very same video footage). But the sections are re-edited into pre-made alternative workouts that you select from a menu. These are often condensed versions of the main workout.
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Floor aerobics & toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The aerobics segments are fast-paced standing movements like marching, dancing and jumping. These segments require no equipment. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against a resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
