Certified instructor description: An innovative program that blends genuine ab toning into easy-to-follow dance moves. It’s a high-energy, fun-to-do workout that combines the fat-burning benefits of dance with the waist-shaping benefits of core conditioning. Marie Forleo makes the toning both effective and graceful (she naturally integrates the ab targeting within the dance movements with torso twists, intensified hip action and extended arm reaches). There’s lots of variety; the dance steps range from grapevines, lunges and funk moves to Latin-style sambas, mambos and cumbias. It all ends with a solid series of ab-focused floor routines. DVD also includes a ending 17-minute step-by-step dance instructional segment. ©2006. DVD has: Chapter menus.

Dance Off the Inches: Tummy Tone

Excellent for beginners...
I really didn't break a sweat with this workout, but I will say after having a baby a few months ago it was a nice start to get back into exercising and a launch into my normal routine. Cumbia moves, I thought were too quick for this routine. Abs section was good, not a lot of undoable crunches, but yet you'll feel a bit sore the next day - if done correctly of course. All in all, a good and fun beginners dvd. - posted by lxc283 on 5/18/2011
Great video
This video has kept me moving with its easy but effective dance moves. I feel the workout without feeling as if I just "worked out". - posted by melissa on 3/29/2011
was fun
This video is pretty easy to learn and is fun to do, I feel its working on my abs - posted by Tiffany on 11/18/2010
Fun Workout, perfect for serious DOMS
I woke up this morning with delayed onset muscle soreness everywhere, and wanted something light to moderate...this is a fun little dance workout, even for me, a non-dancer. I felt much better afterward, and I did work up a slight sweat. It is nice to have a workout like this in my rotation. Marie is a pleasant, clear instructor. - posted by LInda on 7/8/2010
Fun and Great for those of us without Dance Backgrounds
I don't know why the horrible reviews, except this is not an advanced workout. I have several of the Dance Off the Inches and have not been disappointed by any of them. I am an aging ex-advanced exerciser with arthitis in my knees who can do longer do high impact or squats and lunges to no end. I have always wanted to learn to dance, but was always intimidated and overwhelmed by dance workouts I've tried in the past. I am so glad Dance Off the Inches came along! I love Marie and the whole routine! - posted by Mary on 2/7/2009
HORRRRIBBLEEEEE
I absolutely hated this i didnt get a sweat and it doesnt feel like its doing anything for my abs or anywhere in my body. This video is something my grandmother would like but not me.DONT WAIST YOUR MONEY ON THIS PEOPLE! - posted by sara on 11/26/2008
Silly and too easy
This video is definitely a little too easy for me. I would rate this a solid beginner video. I really hated the instructor's talk of "making it funky" and having it be a party. It was no party, just a bunch of too easy dance moves that were too slow to be effective. - posted by Pamela on 4/24/2008
Fun Dance, But Not the Most Fun Dance
I've come to love Dance aerobic videos because they tend to be less repetitive than walking and step videos. They add a little more stimulation for the mind. I enjoyed this Dance Off the Inches because the steps arene't hard (in fact, I didn't find it necessary to use the step guide, although it's nice to have it). But the choreography is fun and interesting enough to enjoy the whole video. I have several Dance Off the Inches videos, and I would recommend this one, but the best I've tried is the Sizzling Salsa video. I like having an abs workout at the end. It wasn't the toughest I've done, but it was worthwhile. I don't know why so many complained about the dancers on the video. I guess I don't get annoyed by them partly because I vary my videos alot. I try not to O.D. on any one video or any one instructor. I'm 47. - posted by Stacey on 2/25/2008
Awful!
I totally agree with Yuck-o-Rama. Far too many mentions of funkiness and partying. Michelle also drives me nuts in the Dance off the Inches Salsa tape with Stella (who's also in this one). I generally like Michelle a lot, except in dance videos. I really like Marie Forleo's personality too, but in every one of her videos that I tried, they are just TOO easy. The TIFT aspect also drove me nuts - just plain boring, yet for some reason it doesn't annoy me in the Julianne Arney video. Maybe because that one has some added speed/intensity, but not this one. The ab section at the end was nothing special, just the type of cruches that make your neck uncomfortable. The only good thing I can say about this one is that since it was such a poor and sweatless workout, I didn't have to wash my hair when I took a shower. - posted by Kari on 9/11/2007
Fun Way To Tone Up Your Tummy
This is my go to video for the times I don't feel like exercising. It's lots of fun, leaves me energized and the abs routine is top notch. I don't mind the banter between the instructors, in fact I think it gives the video a party vibe. The dance portion is very doable and I've learned a thing or two. This is an ideal way to tone the abs and get your cardio in one short and excellent workout. - posted by Janette on 6/11/2007

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Chapter menus
X
You can play only the individual workout segments you want by picking them off a chapter menu (one at a time).
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Floor aerobics & toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The aerobics segments are fast-paced standing movements like marching, dancing and jumping. These segments require no equipment. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against a resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
