Certified instructor description: A playful fat-burner with lots of easy-to-follow line dances — from rock steps and giddy-ups to “Barnyard Boogie” and “Party Boots.” Amy Blackburn’s clear cuing and soft southern drawl is authentic and motivating (she makes even familiar cardio movements a little bit country). Anyone can do this workout; the program features just ten basic steps taught add-on style. You’ll start with simplest moves and slowly boost the intensity by adding more challenging patterns. DVD includes a 14-minute dance tutorial — perfect for anyone new to line dancing. Instrumental fitness music with a country flavor (but never “twangy”). ©2008. DVD has: Chapter menus, Close captions.

Dance Off the Inches: Country Line Dance

Too time consuming to learn
I bought this one and the ballroom dancing one hopeful that I could get into exercising with dancing. Unfortunately, the steps learning segments are way too fast for me, and I don't know dance steps. I only wish these dance videos had a segment with REAL SLOW movement to enable us old folks (I'm 56) to catch on faster. There's simply not enough time given to learn the steps, it's all too fast. I don't have the time to keep going over and over the learning routines trying to pick up the movements. Also, I need to be careful and go slow with learning moves because of my knees. Please produce dance videos which include LONG S-L-0-W learning segments. Or even videos which are devoted entirely to instruction like this. Does any such thing exist? If so, I'd really like to know. - posted by Betsy on 4/13/2012
LOVE IT!
This is soooo fun! I don't think it is a beginner video though- My heart rate was around 130 the whole time (I'm 44). Other beginner videos I have keep my heart rate around 105-110 with maybe a peak of 120 here and there. I definitely broke a sweat, and being from the south I love the southern flair. Highly recommended for the beginner/intermediate or intermediate exerciser- beginners can work their way up. - posted by summer on 2/3/2012
Good Instruction
Very enjoyable workout. Currently we are in the tutorial section. We are progressing each day. - posted by Bonnie Couperthwaite on 1/27/2012
NOT TOO HARD FOR COUNTRY BEGINNER TO FOLLOW
I bought this to vary my dance routines. Discovered that, even in private, I still prefer ballroom Latin, Swing and classical dance moves, but that is my preference. It really isn't that hard to learn the moves from this video, and if you like country dancing, it's a valid choice for you. - posted by J on 1/19/2012
Too fast for beginners
Cute, interesting & definitely a work out. Not really good for learning how to country line dance. Instruction moves way to fast with too few repetitions for a beginner to really learn how to do a dance. It's good exercise...It gets your heart rate up but your foot work "sure ain't pretty", even to a good ol' boy from the country. - posted by Marty on 12/2/2010
Not true beginner video
I am glad to see this website, I wish I had known about it before I purchased this DVD. However, I do not think this is a true "beginner" DVD. I was disappointed that there were so many steps to master before you could even begin to follow the routines. If it could have been one or two simple steps and then gradually added more steps, that might have been fun. Unfortunately, after several attempts I gave up. If you like country music and have already mastered the dance moves this might make your exercise time fun. - posted by Pam on 8/15/2010
Fun and helpful
I love this video! it was really fun and I noticed results in just two days! I am encouraged to do it every day over and over because it doesn't even seem like a workout. - posted by crystazzi on 7/13/2010
country line dancing just plain fun
it is absolutely enjoyable and I'm glad I purchased this video its everything and more. it was the easiest way to get started and I enjoyed the music and easy to understand instructions that get you moving thanks. looking forward to a long relationship. - posted by Kim on 7/5/2010
Fun, playful, light workout
I'm an intermediate/advanced exerciser. However, I sometimes want something lighter for recovery or days when I just need to take it down a notch. This workout fits the bill nicely. The instructor is good, the routines are fun, and the music fits the workout nicely. I reach for this on days when I don't want to work hard but want to do something. I would definitely recommend this. - posted by Elaine on 6/7/2010
FUN
I'm 66 and have been exercising for many years. My routine was getting very stale, and I wasn't highly motivated to keep going. This video gives me a change of pace to keep doing cardio, which I have a hard time making myself do. It is a bit repetitious, but that helps me learn the dances. I've yet to finish the video, because the moves tend to make my joints ache, but I know that is just because it uses my joints in new ways for me. I also have the Ballroom Dance video and really like that also. I'm just glad I'm alone with no one to see me trying to swivel my hips. - posted by Helene on 11/2/2009

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
