Certified instructor description: It features a medley of fun, dance-inspired moves demonstrated in an unusually easy to follow format. Each pattern is taught at three tempos. You’ll always begin a combo at the easiest-to-learn slower tempo and gracefully build up to the faster speeds. Then, you’ll start over again with a new pattern at the slowest tempo (each choreography block only lasts a few minutes so it’s never boring). Juliane Arney’s combinations are exceptionally varied — a mix of familiar dance steps and free-flowing movements — from cha chas and mambos to “sassy taps” and “double twists.” Very enthusiastic class and cuing. Bright, high-tech set. ©2005. DVD has: Chapter menus.

Annoying
I love dance exercise videos, but this one is terrible to follow. The camera angles are constantly changing, making it difficult to follow. - posted by Alissa on 4/18/2012
Annoying
I've been exercising for 25 years. This video is 42 minutes & is nice to do on days I'm tired & don't feel like exercising. The moves are not demanding or complicated or challenging. However, I can't get past or ignore the instructor who talks incessantly about how when her friends show up they just start dancing & that one friend does that every time she comes over. Contrived! - posted by Stacey on 3/27/2010
Outstanding
It looks like I'm one of the few people who enjoys this workout. It's a lot of fun and fairly easy to follow. I say "fairly" easy because there were a few moves that didn't come immediately. However, you repeat the steps a number of times. Believe me, I have two left feet and find most dancing workouts VERY frustrating, but I had such a great time with this routine! Juliane Arney is an exceptional instructor. She's very warm and friendly. Her cheer and humor come across as natural, not forced or fake. You shouldn't expect to burn major calories, though. The intensity of the workout is beginner/intermediate level. But you will have fun. - posted by Martha on 10/14/2009
Just my opinion
I've bought a lot of exercise vidoes, and I would have to say this is one of the most frustrating videos I have ever tired. After many attempts, I still feel confused and feel the moves are not effective. - posted by Carol on 6/13/2009
Too Cheesy
These "dance party" videos are just too silly - as if these girls just dropped by to dance around the basement one morning. I liked this more than many, but after doing it once or twice, I'm giving it away. Wearing a heart rate monitor, I could see that it didn't do much- probably because of the slow tempo sections while you're learning the step. The good is that it doesn't take up much space, and the moves aren't offensive, but how corny...how many times can you hear about how much fun is going on at THIS party? - posted by Kari on 5/24/2008
great workout
As someone who has had both knees replaced and has advance arthritis in my hips, I have a hard time finding a workout that makes me sweat without hurting me. I like the way she says do whatever you want with some of the moves. Going from tempo 1 to 3 makes is easier to grasp the steps. You have to use it more than once to like it. I was ready to throw it out the window day 1 but on day 2 I really enjoyed it. - posted by Rita on 10/3/2007

Too EAsy if you are really in shape
nothing else to say and it's not as fun as it looks if you like Minna Lessig or Kathy Smith this isn't it. - posted by Camden Smith on 4/11/2007
Pretty fun dance moves--some even high intensity
The 3 Tempo approach was a new twist for me. I think I prefer the method on other (later) Dance Off the Inches videos with a separate slow teaching segment, but this one is good for something a little different. Some of the moves were very fast-paced at tempo 3 and I only wished there were more at that level. The girls in the video actually seem to be enjoying themselves and they are different body shapes and sizes, which is nice. I noticed the larger one, Cat, is also on the DVD Pick Your Level: Fat to Firm Fast and she looks like she's a fun bubbly person. I enjoyed this video and it had very fun moves, but if I were only going to buy one Dance Off the Inches, I'd get Fat Burning Jam. - posted by Lainie on 4/2/2007
So Fun!
It was love at first dance. As soon as I popped this DVD into my player I knew it was going to be a great and fun workout. And it didn't disappoint me. I love the instructor. She is so nice and encouraging. I also thought it was cute that the instructor made up her little dance numbers after her back up dancers. It made it that much more enjoyable to dance to. All of the dances are fun and I love how there is Level 1,2,3 so you can learn the move, get comfortable with the move, then finally dance up the move. I highly recommend this workout to anyone who loves to dance and have a great time. - posted by Emily on 3/20/2007
Fun, Fun, Fun!!!
I just got the video in the mail yesterday and did it last night. It was so much fun I wanted to do it all over again and again. Julianne Arney is one of the best. She is so upbeat and fun and encouraging all along the way, just can't say enough good things about her. I'm a more advanced dancer, but this video was so much fun, and the steps really ARE easy to follow and fun to do. If you have always wanted to try some of the dance videos but aren't too coordinated, I think this is a good one to start with. Its more like your just in your house dancing to some good music and having a good time rather than just another boring exercise video. Have Fun!! - posted by Michelle Penny on 6/30/2006

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
