Certified instructor description: A straight-forward step aerobic workout led by a superb instructor. Cathe’s subtle blend of classic and new moves makes this program both effective and fun. You get four progressively-more-intense combos. Cathe usually starts with something familiar like a V-step or a knee lift. Once you’ve learned the “framework” and timing, she smoothly transitions into the more challenging patterns (e.g. a "giddy-up step” or a “plyometric three with a ricochet turn”). The choreography is creative and varied, but Cathe’s cue-ahead style always makes it easy to follow. ©2009. DVD has: Chapter menus.

Cathe Friedrich's Athletic Step

A great work out for step lovers
This Athletic Step is a perfect combination of motivation, moves and music, which is getting harder to purchase nowadays. - posted by Carole on 5/14/2012
Awesome and challenging
I was very intimidated and impressed with this video when I first watched it. Can she really do all those moves at once???? Very good instructor and am working up to doing the whole thing. - posted by Renee on 5/6/2012
Aerobics by Cathe Friedrich
I love Cathe's videos. I am 55 yrs old and love being a step instructor. I have learned alot with Cathe's video's and it really keeps me and my class going. She is an excellent instructor. The different step moves is for me. I love to change things up and Cathe gives me alot of different step moves. Thanks Cathe! by Diana M., Bay City, TX - posted by Diana M on 3/12/2012
A little tricky but once you get the steps it's a whole bunch of fun
This one has been sitting on the shelf for a long time. I finally tried it out entirely and wondered why the heck I waited so long to try it out. It's mainly athletic in step but gets a bit tricky. I am no stepper and I got this one. It's fun and not too long at all. For me, this is a goodie and one I will do again very soon - despite the size of my collection. - posted by Cathefan on 2/26/2012
Nice Effective Workout
I just did Cathe's Athletic Step for the first time and I love it. While it's not as long as most of the step workouts I own, it's a lot more fun than some of them. The moves are easy to catch on to, and you can put a lot into it and nuke some serious calories in a short amount of time. I am 55 years old and have been doing your workouts for years and never get tired of them. Thank you, Cathe, for continuing to produce a good variety of workouts and provide something for everyone. - posted by Pam on 12/3/2011
Very Fun
I really like this workout a lot! The first time I tried it, I was a little frustrated b/c I'm not an expert stepper and some of the moves I just couldn't get. BUT the second time I tried I got it! This is one of my new favorites! Will get your heart rate up and the time flies! - posted by Tommi on 11/3/2011
Very easy routine to learn.
I really love this DVD. I only had to go through it about 3 times to get the hang of it and after that I can do the whole thing without stopping except to catch my breath and take a drink! Whew! The plyo is there but there isn't as much as in some of her DVD's and I toned down the sections that hurt my ankles and feet and it went really well. The reason I found it easy to do is that the routines are broken down into small chunks. Her cuing is a little shorter than usual but because it is broken down in sections I didn't find it that hard and I am not one that easily learns routines. I have to work at it and pay attention. I recommend this one for anyone! - posted by Sassy on 10/17/2011
a little complicated
I think this DVD will be good once I get the hang of it. Right now it is very frustrating. I am in good cardiovascular shape so that is not the problem. The problem is that the cueing is not enough in advance and just when you start to get the sequence, she changes it again. - posted by Sue on 10/8/2011
Great Step Video
I love Cathe and her videos and I have to say this one is very good. I got a good sweat out of it and she gets right to work. It is short but packed with great moves. She doesn't give alot of instruction as in her other videos I own, but I'm sure if I do this video regularly that shouldn't be an issue in the long run. - posted by Maywati on 8/23/2011
Great workout
I really liked this workout. I am 46 and have been stepping for almost twenty years, and consider myself advanced. Due to knee issues, I do this tape on a four inch step but I do all the high impact moves. There are no tricky moves or steps in this tape-it's very easy to follow. The length is perfect for doing before work, and I get a very good sweat on in a short time. I took one star away for the awkward add on section at the end-it doesn't seem to flow with the rest of the workout. Other than that small quibble, great workout and another winner from Cathe. - posted by Tannis on 6/2/2011

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
