Certified instructor description: A diverse cardio segment and a kettlebell-based aero/tone section. It’s exceptionally well-planned and “purposeful” — each series is clearly designed to maximize results. You’ll begin with pure fat-burning — a varied mix of kickboxing, bootcamp, plyometrics and sports drills. That’s followed by two aero/tone segments — cardio-speed, kettlebell exercises. The first is lower-body focused; the second works your upper and lower body at the same time (e.g. a low chop combined with a lateral lunge). Yoga-style warm-up and cooldown. Brook Benten is fun; her cuing is clear and precise but not “too serious.” Requires a 10 lb. (or heavier) kettlebell. ©2009. DVD has: Chapter menus.

Cardio Pump Fusion with Brook Benten

Very good workout
Really does the trick. I use it in the morning before work, and it really gets the endorphins pumping! - posted by Leslie on 11/3/2011
Not very good
When I viewed the video clips on this video, it looked like just what I wanted. The workout is disjointed and Brook's voice is often hard to hear over the music. I don't know if her mike isn't working or if she's just not speaking up enough. The cardio was hohum and the first kettlebell workout was not well sequenced. I actually liked the second kettlebell workout. I hated the yoga moves. All in all, a big disappointment. - posted by Tipi on 7/23/2011
Different and Challenging
I'm fairly new to kettlebell workouts, and have found them to be challenging and different, a great way to mix up your routine. This one is quite challenging - I did it all the way through and felt really worked-out by the end. I found Brook's cueing to be just fine - I like her approach, and I think her kettlebell form pointers are very helpful. You get quite alot for your money with this workout, I really recommend it. - posted by Sally on 3/17/2011
Really liked it!
I really enjoyed this workout! I, too, was worried about the 4 star review...but I am glad I took the chance! I am not sure what the complaints are about. Brook is certified in Kettlebell (not the cert you want?), and she isn't "new, jumping on the bandwagon" to this type of workout..so yeah, I don't get it! Anyway, Brook is likable and cues well, my heartrate stayed up the whole workout. Give it a shot! - posted by Jessica on 3/8/2011
I very much enjoy this workout!
I had been bypassing this DVD because of the less-than-four star overall rating on Collage. However, on closer examination I found it suspicious that positive five and four star reviews are sprinkled with one-star diatribes. And it’s a Staff Favorite to boot. So I read all the reviews. Well hello and goodbye, purists! This workout is wonderful, a great mix of yoga, which I normally don’t care for (zzzzzzzzzzzzz) but which works well as a warm-up/cool-down, and athletic cardio moves and kettlebell segments, all nicely chaptered. I like Ms. Benton’s kettlebelling although I myself would never “toss and catch” the bell, greatly preferring to keep it in my hands – but hey, that’s an easy modification to make to avoid worrying about the damage a 15 pound weight dropped five feet would do to a foot or hardwood floor. Ms. Benton is an awesome instructor and just look at her – she’s what I strive to look like: wonderfully fit and toned without looking too thin or too muscular. Nice. My only complaint is too much lime green on the set but that’s just me being petty. So, two thumbs way up for this workout! - posted by Susan W. on 10/26/2010
I love this workout!!!!
Wow! This workout rocks! From the start, my heart rate was up and it stayed up the whole time. I love how she starts out with 30 min. of all cardio, then moves into the kettlebell segements. They both fly by and they are very do-able. I am a very advanced exerciser and though I've had just a little bit of kettlebell experience, I had no trouble following her cues. The compound exercises are great! They worked my total body while keeping up my heart rate. She has some fun moves, but be careful with the overhead throws. I highly recommend this workout and in fact, can't wait to do it tomorrow! - posted by Mindy on 8/23/2010
Looking for Something Different
I was looking for something different to add to my workout collection, and I have to say that I have certainly found it w/this video. I do the whole workout – yoga warmup, cardio, both kettlebell sections and the yoga cooldown all the way thru. I wasn’t too wild about the idea of starting w/yoga, as you have to put your shoes on and put the yoga mat away before you do the main workout and then take your shoes off and get the yoga mat back out at the end. However, the warmup is surprisingly effective, so I’m willing to forgive the inconvenience. I am an intermediate/advanced exerciser, and am really just starting to get into the truly advanced workouts. I really like that you can follow three different levels, i.e. one exerciser does all advanced moves, one does easier modified moves, and Brook shows moves somewhere in the middle. I’m all over the map on this, so I have room to grow. I’m not a purist on kettlebell form, so it seems fine to me but I really couldn’t comment on that. However I didn’t like the idea of throwing the kettlebell up into the air, so I just lift it over my head on that move. The music is very unusual, not in a bad way, but just different. I really feel that I get a good cardio workout w/this and found it to be fun. - posted by Suzanne on 7/29/2010
would recommend
This was my first workout with Brook and I liked her. Shes upbeat and the workout was fun to do. I'm a avid Cathe and Amy Bento fan, but this was a nice mixup in my routine. The kettlebell section was a little hard to stay inspired on, but have never done kettlebell workouts before so it could just be me. Easy to make harder or easier. - posted by laurie on 3/23/2010
I LOVED It!!!
A total must have for the cardio junkie. Brook's personality was lovable and her instruction top notch -- and she was very encouraging, which I needed, to carry me through this VERY CHALLENGING workout! The warmup is Yoga based, but with ascending count mountain climbers which raised the heart rate and got me warm enough to start the Fusion part, which was athletic bootcamp & kickboxing with lots of plyos, burpees, Heismans, split lunges, etc. It's tough! Then the next segment was heavy kettlebell lower body focused cardio (tough!) followed by a total body light kettlebell cardio blitz (tough again!). By the end I was drenched in sweat but smiling. Keeping up with Mary Lee, the advanced modifier, is going to challenge me for a long time to come. The Yoga & Tai Chi cooldown was perfect. The music was original and motivating, kind of tribal-ish. I loved every second of this workout. Five stars from me! - posted by Sam on 3/2/2010
Better follow Certified RKC Instructor
I agreed with Emmy. Brook is not certified RKC instructor. She didn't do proper way for kettlebell workout. - posted by Ann on 2/28/2010

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

You can play only the individual workout segments you want by picking them off a chapter menu (one at a time).
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Floor aerobics & toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The aerobics segments are fast-paced standing movements like marching, dancing and jumping. These segments require no equipment. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against a resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
