Certified instructor description: The video that made Callan famous. It's a unique series of "deep muscle exercises"- exact, controlled, "pulsed" movements of your large muscle groups (e.g. precise leg lifts of one inch, not 12 inches). Designed to shape your entire body, these exercise video classics are personally taught by best-selling author, Callan Pinckney. With a gentle, soothing voice she carefully demonstrates each move and modification. Quiet instrumental music. ©1986 DVD has: Chapter menus.

Callanetics with Callan Pinckney

Five Star
I discovered this wonderful exercise program back in the late '80's, when I was a young person. Following motherhood I experienced years of back and upper body pains. I have finally gotten back to this exercise program and the pains are gone and I am growing stronger, leaner and more flexible . I always loved it since it gave me a very toned body without bulging muscles. I also loved it since it was very slow moving and created a toned body without injury or exhaustion. Also found it relaxing and easy to use while living in an apartment-gentle relaxing music and no jumping around, so it did not disturb neighbors. Callan Pinkney is a unique and wonderful instructor-she understands "triple slow motion" to prevent injury-a concept that is alien to many instructors. This exercise program is timeless and will still be of value 200 years from now. I recommend that you also engage in a separate aerobic activity -another DVD or walking and an additional DVD to strengthen your muscles with weights or some other means on alternating days. Prior to resuming this DVD, I conditioned my body with a Collage Video DVD found in the "Seniors" section-a DVD from the National Institute on Aging that is also wonderfully instructed at a gentle but effective pace by Margaret Richard. I strongly recommend that you do something like this if you have not exercised in a long time, since Callan's exercises are intense and do require a basis of muscle strength and flexibility. By doing what I have described to you, I have grown stronger at my own pace and have been able to avoid the need for physical therapy. - posted by Laura on 5/1/2012
Awesome
I love Callanetics this is one workout I actually look forward to doing intense yet relaxing at the same time it's only been 2 weeks and I feel leaner esp in the midsection abs waist area and my legs and arms feel toner. I would recommend this video it's a must have I can see doing this for life I can't say that about all the other DVDs I have and I have over 100! Lol - posted by Kennedy on 4/19/2012
Wonderful
I owned the book years ago and lost it. I decided to start doing Callanetics again because it is an effective exercise. It is easy to follow along, the exercises are well explained and the quality of the DVD is great. - posted by Ebony on 4/19/2012
Callanetics
I used this video 20 years ago and decided to look for it again. It was nice to find it again in DVD. - posted by Joanne on 4/13/2012
FABULOUS
Used this on vhs years ago, it absolutely works. I have never tightened up so quickly. I recommend this to EVERYONE. - posted by Muriel on 4/12/2012
exercise program that protects the back
These exercises are great if you are sick and tired of jumping around with other programs. They tone the body fast using very small, but deep movements. It is very helpful to see Callan correct her students' movements on the video. Although this old method was originally on a VHS recording, (transferred to a DVD), it is a very effective program. I am pleased with the results. - posted by Cathleen Welch on 3/29/2012
Just like I remember it!
This is apparently a direct remake of the original. This does have a counter as the video. It is effective and works if you do it! - posted by Kathy on 3/16/2012
A TRIED AND TRUE CLASSIC
I have been doing Callanetics for about twenty years on and off (mostly off). Still regardless of how long it's been since the last time I did it in between each time, and I start again, it NEVER fails to produce results! IT REALLY WORKS! I have quite a few workout DVDs but I can honestly say that none of them has ever gotten me the results for tightening my body like Callanetics. - posted by Sharon on 3/10/2012
the best for me
This is by far the best ever exercise program! I used this while in service and it got me through my career. The soldiers kept getting younger but I had to keep up and thanks to the Callanetics program I was able to keep up passing PT tests and cross country runs for training. Have been out for some time and got started again with the same great results. - posted by ula on 2/23/2012

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
