Certified instructor description: A fun-focused set of three hip hop dance styles — Basic, Bollywood and Samba. Billy's add-on teaching makes the workout super-easy-to-follow. He always begins with simple foot patterns at a slow pace. Then he increases the tempo and adds more complex dance steps (along with optional intensity-boosting arm motions). The first segment features hip hop classics like "Superman" and "B-boy." That's followed by playful, Bollywood-inspired moves like "Bolly Bounce" and "Bolly Barbeque." The third section brings out your "inner spicy" with sensuous shimmies and hip rolls. The final series uses all three styles in a calorie-torching finale. Billy's high-energy cuing is both motivating and supportive ("don't judge yourself; just have fun!"). "Lite hip hop" instrumental music. ©2011. DVD has:

    Could be good |
| Enjoyed the instruction, but could have been repeated more. Love to dance, but at the beginning I need to be able to see the feet, and they kept panning dancer's faces. Could be a good workout once I learn it. - posted by Laura on 3/23/2012 |

    Billy brings the fun! |
| I am a big fan of Billy's workouts. As usual, he doesn't disappoint! He brings us some new, fun moves that help get your heart rate up. Time really flew by for me - my personal favorite was the "Bollywood" segment. I am not much of a dancer and will admit that sometimes I got lost, but I kept moving and got it the next time- just like he said I would. I also love how he threw in a little "freestyle" moment at the very end of all the combos where each cast member did their own thing and you were invited to follow. Fitness SHOULD be fun, and Billy Blanks Jr. delivers! - posted by Molly on 1/10/2012 |

    Billy Blanks Hip Hop |
| Always had good luck with the dvd's purchased from Collage, love the way the catalogue is set up and the many choices offered so I was excited to see the Billy Blanks Jr new Hip Hop workout. But after trying it out several times to give it a chance I decided it wasn't for me. I love to dance, but the instructions were too quick and jumped into moves a person didn't have a chance to catch on. I felt the warm up moves were too fast and almost seemed dangerous to be moving so fast without better and slower instructions and properly working up to the full work out, - posted by Carol on 12/30/2011 |

More Challenging Than Previous DVD's...and Fun! |
| I enjoyed and reviewed BB Jr's first two dance workouts, stating that I wished he would do a DVD of a bit higher complexity and intensity. And here it is! The set is shiny, new and more professional, as are his backup team. And while his group appears more coordinated and polished, I like that they are still regular people rather than beanpole thin 18-year old models. I also like that Billy's wife Catherine, who is a wonderful dancer, is positioned right behind him, highly visible, but she doesn't yap all the time as in the previous DVD's. The three dance segments are definitely at an Intermediate intensity, and the choreography is definitely more complex; unless you're a professional dancer, you're not going to get it all right on the first try. And this is a GOOD thing! Even my first time when I was bumbling through some of the combinations, my heartrate stayed moderately high throughout. Another change from his previous tapes is the lack of 2-minute bursts at the conclusion of each segment, and that's also fine, because your heartrate is already up there. I did dock Billy one star because of the purportedly 6-minute finale/Dance Challenge, combining the three routines back to back. He only runs through them two times, which is strange because his final dance sets have ALWAYS been done three times each. One point: during the second run through of the three routines Billy does not cue, which I think is just fine; it's a motivator to keep using the DVD to learn the choreography well enough to wing it along with the group. However, after a mere four minutes, Billy then introduces the cast. Each member steps center stage and demos their own dance moves that you are supposed to mimic. I've seen this ploy in some other DVD's and have never liked it. It's disorganized and basically a waste of time. What I did instead was run in place to maintain my heart rate; any cardio move would fill in the gap to complete the six-minute finale. But that's my only negative. Overall, it's challenging, fun and very worthwhile. - posted by Janny on 12/19/2011 |
