Certified instructor description: Fast-paced and super-challenging, it’s an ever-changing mix of non-stop cardio combos. You’re sure to burn fat, build stamina … and test your endurance. Don’t even think about slowing down; these wide-ranging moves only change from “fast” to “even faster” (in the “power up” intervals that end each combination). The exercises include pivots, repeaters and directional changes plus higher-impact ski jumps, power leaps and football-style plyo drills (the last combo is nearly all high-impact, but one person shows an easier variation). Throughout, Amy’s cuing and transitions are flawless while her energy level is amazing. Includes some “pre-mixed” workout options. ©2006. DVD has: 9 premixes (33 to 118-min. alternate workouts), Chapter menus.

Amy Bento's Hi-Lo Xtreme

Good workout, but ...
This video is guaranteed to make you sweat if you have enough patience to learn all the steps. The cueing is not very good and the instructor does not take the time to show you how to do the moves before she gets into them. Therefore, if you have the patience you can ultimately learn all the routines and perhaps enjoy the workout. - posted by Paule on 10/18/2011
I liked this one

It's OK
I'm an Amy fan and will continue to be, but this is not my favorite video of hers. I got this the same time as Hi-Lo cardio knockout, and like that one much better. I have a small-ish workout space, and some of the moves in this one would require much more room. I find myself spinning in circles during the one interval because she is galloping around the large room they are in. It's kind of annoying, and I usually skip that part. It does get my heartrate up, though, and has its fun parts. I also like the fact that it has segments from one of her weight videos in some of the premixes, making it an effective time saver. However, I have to skip the part with the pull-ups, not having a body bar or 24 step risers. Regardless, I think the fact that it has the weights segment makes it a decent value for the money. - posted by Brittany W. on 3/16/2011
High Energy
That's what I have to say about this workout! It's very high-energy, fun, and as an advanced exerciser, it still challenges me! It keeps one's heart-rate up. I like that! I really sweat with this workout. I really like the premixes, too, because being in grad school for 2 masters degrees limits the amount of time I have available to workout. Thanks, Amy, for making such a fun workout. - posted by Patti on 2/15/2011

Awesome workout...love it and it really makes you sweat! - posted by Judi on 2/10/2011
Hard to follow
This instructor does not break down the moves which would be very helpful. The routine starts out fast and stays there which is difficult. - posted by Sharon on 1/20/2011
Love this workout, it's so much fun.
I love this hi/lo workout. The music in it rocks and the time flies by. It did take me a few tries to get to know the routines, they are tricky to master. Once I mastered them, I love using this dvd when I need a lift. It's fun. - posted by Susan on 8/29/2010

Has its good points and bad
I'm a pretty advanced exerciser and this workout definitely keeps my heart pumping. I was looking for something intense, but not dull, and this workout does fit the bill. As others point out here though, the cuing can be really bad. She doesn't stop and explain the moves. She just charges ahead and you just try to keep up as best you can. The same step can be defined differently each time. For example, I am a long time dance student, so when I hear "chasse" I think "step-together-step." She calls one move a "chasse" in the classic dance class mode. Other times a chasse goes on two different diagonals or turns around. It can be very confusing. As someone with a dance background, I really had to do this video a few times before I caught on to all of the choreography. It may be very frustrating for someone who isn't a dancer. - posted by Rachel on 7/20/2010
Just Try It Again
At first I was frustrated trying to figure out the moves but I kept doing it every morning with my friend anyways & after you really get the moves down you're kinda glad she doesn't take time explaining things because that means your work out doesn't have to slow down to learn something you already know. But memorizing it takes about 4 or 5 days then its go baby GO! - posted by Jenny on 7/7/2010

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.
sample time graph
Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Premixes
X
These are alternate workouts created by the manufacturer. They use the same content as the main program (i.e. the very same video footage). But the sections are re-edited into pre-made alternative workouts that you select from a menu. These are often condensed versions of the main workout.
Chapter menus
X
You can play only the individual workout segments you want by picking them off a chapter menu (one at a time).
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Floor aerobics
X
Definition: Fast-paced standing movements like marching, walking, dancing and jumping. Requires no equipment.

Benefits: Burns calories. Strengthens your heart. Increases stamina.
