Certified instructor description: Expertly led by Keli Roberts, it’s five 10-minute segments, each one with a specific focus. You can do as many, or as few, as you want (the customizable DVD lets you play the segments in any order). It starts with “basic training” — a cardio-paced medley of punches, jabs, kicks and shuffles. That’s followed by “buns and thighs” and “arms and shoulders” — they integrate dumbbells within the kickbox-style toning (often fast enough to raise your heart rate). “Fat burning blast” is the most bootcamp-oriented, from “burpees” and “push-ups” to challenging agility drills. You’ll finish with “washboard abs” — a mostly Pilates-inspired floorwork series. Requires 2 to 5 lb. dumbbells. ©2005. DVD has: Programmable chapters.

10 Minute Solution: Kickbox Bootcamp

Keli Roberts Kick Box Boot Camp
I call this my "tough chick" work out! I love that the menu allows you to create your own workout from all the segments provided, or to choose all of them for a fun, yet challenging workout. Kelli Roberts is an excellent instructor as I have several of her videos that make my monthly rotation. I'm only giving this 4 stars because I find using weights in a "throwing punches" movement a little difficult and could lead to injury. Perhaps you should have several different sets of hand weights to choose from (like I do?). But you have to experience the correct weight that works for YOU before you can figure it out! It's a great work out though! - posted by Mary on 5/11/2012
Great instructor
I took a kickboxing class years ago and although I enjoyed kickboxing I felt the instructor didn't teach the moves sufficiently for a beginner. I bought Keli Roberts's Kickboxing for Dummies and was really pleased at the way she broke down all the kicks and punches. I wanted another kickboxing DVD to add to my repertoire, and saw her 10 Minute Solution here. This is a really good workout. I like the way she incorporates the light weights into the legs and arms sections. The hardest workout for me is the bootcamp exercise with the burpees (we called them squat thrusts in high school gym class) and pushups but I'm working on it. I do the entire video but if pressed for time I think doing two or three sections would be pretty effective. - posted by Lucille on 4/13/2012
Enjoyable workout
I find myself turning to this workout on days when I just don't want to work out at all. As they say, there is no dread factor. I always end up enjoying it. It gets my blood pumping and I feel like I've gotten some good exercise at the end. I enjoy Keli's instruction and plan to buy some additional DVD's by her. - posted by Jill on 2/7/2012

good work out
This is a pretty good workout if you do all of them together. I do like the fact I can do 2 or more if I am short on time and that I am able to customize it. - posted by cheryl on 6/30/2011
Loved most of it
I actually now enjoy this workout, A great motivating instructor who is very focused on form and technique. The 4th segment "fat burning blast" is very difficult though, and I still haven't made it through the whole segment yet, But I'll get there:) The basic training and arm sculpt are my favourites. - posted by Shelbi on 6/16/2011
Simple yet tough and engaging
I had mixed results with the last 10 Minute Solution DVD I tried but this one is a winner. First, it's led by Keli Roberts whom I've been a fan of since her 90's step videos. She's an excellent instructor. The first segment includes a brisk warmup and kickboxing tutorial that is suitable for a beginner without boring someone who has kickboxed before (and better yet, she keeps you moving while she's teaching the moves and explaining form.) This is followed by weighted lower and upper body segments-I use two sets of weights because I prefer to punch with lighter weights so I can maintain form. This is followed by a fairly tough fat burning section and an abs segment with some plank variations, crunches and pilates moves. I sweat but it's not impossibly hard either. The change-up every ten minutes also tricks me into thinking time is flying by. Like all 10 Minute Solution DVD's, it's easy to customize. I like this one. - posted by Vanessa on 6/5/2011

Love Keli she is very motivational and inspiring, I don't go to the gym anymore and find time to do quick 10 minutes of workouts easy to fit in to family life and work commitments. Lurl Edmonds - posted by Lurl Edmonds on 3/14/2011
a good purchase
As a full-time professional and mother of 2 (3 if you count my husband), I enjoy the 10 minutes solution videos. I can do as many as I want or can. That being said, I don't feel like these segments are enough on their own. I like them in a series of 3 or more, as add-ons to another workout, and I especially like it for the full 50 minutes. I am an intermediate/advanced exerciser and find this workout enough without being so much I get that dread factor. Overall, a good addition to large workout library. - posted by Amy on 2/1/2011
great kickbox-based exercises
Short kickbox-based toning and cardio exercises with a motivating instructor who cues clearly and precisely. The video production is high quality, and easy on the eyes and ears. I dabble in all kinds of exercising from mini-trampoline to circuit training to pilates, and I thoroughly enjoy working out with this dvd. - posted by Becky on 1/19/2011

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Programmable chapters
X
At the beginning of your workout, you can select the exact segments you want to play that day. The DVD will then play all those segments in the order you chose.
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Floor aerobics & toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The aerobics segments are fast-paced standing movements like marching, dancing and jumping. These segments require no equipment. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against a resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
