Recommendations for strength workouts without squats or lunges

I'm looking for something for my dad. He does Leslie for cardio but I think he needs some strength workouts too. He can't do lunges or squats because he has very bad knees. Any recommendations?

Tonique mat work out is AWESOME! all floor-gentle on knees-but tough workout-has chapters so you can adjust your workout.

Gilad's Shoulders & Arms is about 20 minutes mostly standing but not squats or lunges..you can vary the weights. There are two exercises where you are kneeling that I can think of but I think they would be easy to moderate(chair or standing) if they would bother his knees, pretty much a no frills workout for upper body strength. hth

How old is your Dad? You could look at some of the "over 50" workouts or some of the senior workouts if he is older. A good place to start strength training is the Weight Training for Dummies workout. It moves very slowly but shows good form for basic exercises like biceps curls. It does have a few squats and lunges for the lower body though. Another good one if you can find it is Leslie Sansone's Short Cuts Upper Body and Short Cuts Lower Body. The upper body is all done sitting in a chair (but it's not too easy), and the lower body is all floor work. My husband likes the Gilad Quick Fit workouts - there are 2 or 3 different upper body ones, an abs one, and a lower body one, but the lower body is squats and lunges so you probably want to skip that.

He's 68. I guess he won't mind squats and lunges if they are done at a slow pace. The Leslie sounds good but he uses so much of her for his cardio so I want to get him something different. Are the squats and lunges in Gilad's Quick Fit workouts done at a slow pace? I looked at the Weight Training for Dummies and that looks pretty good. Thanks again for the help!

Get Ripped, I have bad knees as well. This workout doesn't bother them at all.
