Jazzercise Dancin' Abs - Monday, March 08, 2010 8:03 PM
While this looks fun, is it a good intermediate workout that works up a sweat or is it more for beginners?  How does it do on the abs?  Is there a similar ab workout you can compare it to?  Does anyone recommend it or not recommend it and why?  Thanks!

Hi --

I LOVE dance workouts, so I got most of the Jazzercise dvds. I SORT of enjoyed them the first time or 2, but they are WAY too repetitive. The music is actually okay for the most part -- best thing about them, which is why I tolerated the workouts originally. But it turns out the musical numbers are quite long and you alternate 2 simplistic blocks of choreography over and over and over again until I'm about to scream! It's not TIFTing in the usual sense, which I don't mind at all. It's just the same moves all the way through until the next piece of music begins. Then you get some somewhat different choreography, and repeat ad nauseum. That applies to the Jazzercise dvds in general.

In the case of the Dancing Abs, I guess I made it through one time, and I was so frustrated by it I can't speak specifically to what ab work was done. I THINK it may have been similar to Core Rhythms (which I don't like much for pretty much the same reason -- it just got boring).

You might love it! So I hope that fans will chime in. I know it's a popular program and a lot of people find it to be fun. My thumbs are down, but I'm hoping to read so many good comments that I'll be moved to pull it out and give it another try! Who knows -- I've found some real gems in my collection by giving them a second chance.

Yup, the dvds are quite repetitive. The classes were better, but I ultimately felt that I outgrew those too... if you like simple choreo that gets you moving without a lot of thought, you can make these routines work if you give them your 100%.

When standing in front of my TV all set to use these any of the Jazzercise dvds, I found I had to skip around to find a routine I could tolerate and only ended up with a few total that I could get into.

I didn't care for it at all. Honestly, SG I think it will be too easy for you.

That's what I was afraid of.  Oh well, I am sure I will find something else!  Thanks for all of your input!!
